The Merriam-Websterâą dictionary defines home as â A familiar or usual settingâ. The minute one enters Weeds CafĂ© and Cappuccino Bar, you feel just that â home. As I step foot inside, the aroma of fresh gourmet spices and ripe stimulating beans fill your presence, creating a euphoric and enraptured lens on the rest of my day. Earthy tones border large windows, accompanied by a large seating area with just the amount of merry customers to make you feel comfortable, yet socially excited. I saunter over to the counter to be greeted by four smiling faces. Sure, I may have never met these fine people in my life, but a twinkle in their eye says, âWe are family, and you are my brotherâ. A young stylish looking staff member approaches me and inquires about my unquenchable desire to fill the void deep within. I ask about the menu, we crack a few light yet satisfying jokes, and I order a coffee. The menu is composed of a few different options of food and drink. Coffee both blazing and chilled, sandwiches from around the world, unique and traditional breakfasts, and even different adult beverages for the late night arrivals. I proceed into a slightly hidden room to the left of the counter, and as I arrive I enter an almost rustic yet hip rectangular room painted with the most fitting of primary colors. A large table, two matching couches, and two armchairs sit under tasteful holiday lights and outstanding art. Within minutes, my coffee is emptied from its vessel into myself. A rich, perfectly balanced legume broth with hints of berry and chocolate. I am now intrigued. I re-visit the front of house this time a bit famished, once again greeted by another lovely employee. I order soup and sandwich, and she asks a question to what appears to be her immediate superior about my order. He smiles and locks eyes with both of us over a few seconds and says warmly; âDonât worry, I got thisâ. I pay, and sit next to the food station to observe the process. The gentleman passionately sauces the rye, places fresh ingredients between the slices and puts it on a sandwich press. Some time passes, and he personally delivers a steaming plate of four-bean soup and an Italian classic between bread. Once again, within minutes, I lovingly finish the product. I return my dished and say bye, and it is returned with warm farewells from all the staff.
I say with a fair degree of experience and certainty that Weeds is amongst some of the top café experiences in the city, and quite possibly the province or country. I highly recommend you stop by if you find yourself in the area. Great coffee, outstanding food, and...
Read moreUpdate Sept 2021- Doesnât matter pre Covid or post Covid they are so good and so consistent! They nail it every time- My favourite cafe in YYC đđȘđ
Review: The coffee and baristas here are top notchđ some reviews say the service is cold - I would say they are more introverted and straightforward. My kind of service đ
The coffee here is strong and flavorful- the word I would use is unabashed. They use a medium dark roast typically.
Ambience- cozy, earthy, small town, and friends. Service- straightforward, no BS, focused on great coffee.
The baristas here are older and have more life experience under their belt. Which comes through in the service - don't expect the person behind the counter to turn your day around and you will have a great experience đ
Definitely worth visiting at least twice.
Fyi would highly recommend their mocha - strong smooth coffee flavor.
PS - will update after I try some of...
Read moreI donât normally write bad reviews, I try to write good ones only, but this one is important to me. I went into weeds cafe, first and last time I will ever go. I came in, ordered a decaf latte, sat down, started drinking my coffee, other people were complaining about their coffee orders getting screwed up, so I felt a need to confirm that my latte was a decaf; let me just add that I have a medical (eye) condition that worsens when I drink caffeine, so I havenât drank caffeine in over a year. The barista confirmed it was so I drank it. An hour later, I am absolutely vibrating from the caffeine in my body (and I repeat, havenât had coffee in over a year). I called the store to complain explaining how important it is that I have decaf due to a medical condition and the gentleman states that âthere is nothing they can do about it nowâ and that he would let the owner know. Not a great customer service...
