My husband and I used to call the Kings head pub our go to spot, before we moved and they closed. I found out this week that they reopened. We were so excited, we decided to go for date night. My husband tried to order an 88 Hazy IPA, the waitress said we don't have that, wait, no, we do, no we are out. So he chose a different beer. Off to an odd start with the service in my opion, not being sure what's offered or out of stock. My husband ordered the Kings Head Loaded, the waitress said with fries on the side? My husband looked at me and then her, confused he said ...I guess so. So I replied, the pizza comes with fries? The waitress replied, oh I thought he wanted a burger... Weird, until I realized there was a burger with a similar name. I decided to build my own pizza to do the Thursday 3 topping special. I asked for green peppers, red onion and fresh tomato. The waitress seemed confused as she didn't write any of our order down, and asked me which pizza on the menu and to repeat my order. I replied a 10 inch build your own pizza, green peppers, red onion, and fresh tomato. My husband left to go to the washroom, at the exact moment our food arrived at the table. The waitress sets down the 2 pizzas, and I can tell immediately ones incorrect, as both pizzas should have fresh sliced tomatos on top. So I say, oh my pizza was supposed to have fresh tomatos on it, to which I get the reply, there is tomato on it. I look at the pizza, confused as all I see is cheese. So I politely say, oh but I ordered fresh tomato? (If you know the menu it says FRESH TOMATO OR COOKED as options). She replies, there is tomato, it's under the cheese, cooked. Not wanting to argue I say alright and she walks away. Looking at the pizzas, I notice there is no green pepper on either pizza. The waitress walks to the table and gives me a thumbs up, basically asking how it looks. I politely say, there is no green pepper on my pizza, peel back the cheese to show her, she apologies and asks if I want it remade... I say yes please, but all I'm thinking is: Well yes, the ingredients are not correct, 2 of the 3 ordered items are now wrong. She takes the pizza to the kitchen. After coming back from the washroom my husband asked what was wrong with the pizza, I explain. The waitress then comes back to the table and says, they used red peppers. (Which is not even an option for pizza topping on the menu). Keep in mind, my pizza was taken back to be remade. She then says to me, is that OK, because we don't have any green peppers, we are out, I guess, and they didn't tell me. I said I mean I guess so if it's my only option. Then she asks if I can take the pizza they already made. Not wanting to argue or wait another half an hour for the same mistake of a pizza, I reluctantly accept. My original pizza was brought back out. She can tell I am not happy and asks the bartender to comp my pizza, then apologies and tells me my pizza is on them tonight...nice gesture, but how about my correct order. Here are my problems with this visit as someone who has worked in the industry. 1, cooking a tomato when a customer asks for fresh, incorrect, but cooking tomato makes it sweeter and more acidic. Not what I asked for but I can get over it. 2, red bell pepper is not on the menu as a pizza option. Red bell peppers are sweet peppers, where as a green pepper is more savory, bitter, firmer and offered on the menu. Thus combined 1 and 2 creates a sweet pizza, instead of savory. People can have allergies to the different colors of bell peppers, if you need to change it, approve the change with the customer, don't just do it and say nothing. 3, when a customer asks for something remade and the dish is taken back to the kitchen, you NEVER bring back the same plate. That is one of the first things you learn in the food industry. I did not want to seem like I was trying to make issues or be difficult, but I felt like I was not only treated like it didn't matter, but because they comped it, I should be grateful. Weird experience, not great service. Miss the...
Read moreFrequented here after work and for live bands ,until horrible interaction between the grey haired/white haired bartender who has the personality of a box of rocks and has no concern for female safety,he is rude, cold ,short and also hit on my male friend, great bands great food but it's time to revamp your staff, that bartender is very unwelcoming and is detering patrons from enjoying themselves there, maybe get undercover boss involved to see how your old bartender treats the patrons .it's disgusting to be treated so grossly from a staff representing kings head.sober people united, such a horrible experience, it's very gross and disgusting that people can treat people so grossly. Nobody needs to be discriminated against because of a personality conflict.hes a dead weight, and detering patrons!!! trying to get contact info for the owner has been relentless, and your staff have refused to give contact information, hung up on Me when I wanted to contact owner,
I'm hoping the email falls in the owners hands,so he is aware of how horrible, mean and unwelcoming your older skinny white haired bartender is and how he engages with your patrons,I went a couple of times by myself as a female in a new city,to enjoy livebands,I had a terrible interaction with him one night when my bank card didn't work on your pos machine,so I had to leave the bar area and walk over to bank machine to retrieve money,I asked him to cover and watch my drink, and at that point he starting arguing with me refused to cover it and proceeded to serve to other ladies, ignoring my request, even tho we were in the middle of a transaction. I was so upset I spoke to the manager and explained what just occurred, he said he would deal with it and go and enjoy myself.after that night,I made sure I never went alone again,we would frequented we'd fir wings after work and Thursdays after work,my friend drinks Coca-Cola, we've enjoyed ourselves, the other patrons and all the staff have been awesome and friendly and personable, I've never been rowdy or rude or over stayed my welcome I tip well, that being said, everytime we have been there and that older white haired bartender is working, he is cold, rude and very unwelcoming, my presence irritates him,and he let's it be known,no smiles,no greeting, just eye rolls and he acts like he doesn't want to be there.yesterday we were there on Wednesday again no problem after work ,but we went Thursday and were asked to leave and when we asked fir a reason the guy told us because I had problems with my bank card.nonsense,it boils down to a personality conflict and a bartender who not only isn't invested in women's safety but has no regard for your establishment or the good patrons that frequent, the least I could do fir the women in calgary would be warn them about him,I've never been treated so poorly, you should be ashamed...
Read moreI was here last night, on a Saturday night live music night, and my experience was amazing. The server was very attentive and pleasant. The food was very good and everything was priced well. The band playing, Red Mile High, was a cover band that was on stage from about 10pm to 2am. They sounded great and was personable with the crowd. The crowd was not rambunctious while we were there and was respectful and friendly. The server made several trips to the table to make sure we had everything we needed. She didn't judge us for not drinking and even made a pot of coffee for me (because I'm an old fuddy duddy, lol). I give this night a 5 out 5.
Now for the reason this review gets 3 stars...
Went back today for lunch with a friend, making us a table of three. There were a few other tables finishing up and what I can only assume are "the regulars" sitting around the bar. Lunch started out ok with the server making sure we had a beverage (no coffee today, just pop) and informed us of the specials - 35 cent wings!! We were there for a pizza, but man those wings sounded good so we placed an order of them. Ordered the pizza after a bit. The pizza was not quite as ordered when it came out, but things happen so ate it anyway. Them we began to realize why the pizza may have been incorrect... We were seated by the kitchen and the server past us SEVERAL times without checking on our empty drinks. Now I'll admit that when she did check, twice maybe (?), she was friendly, even though she said she didn't check on us because we were talking to one another - maybe if we sat in silence we would have been offered refills? When we finally were able to ask for the bill the server said she would be right back with the machine for us to pay and be on with our day.... I had to track the server down, 10 min later, at a table full of gentlemen and ask her if I could pay. She ran over and grabbed me the machine and apologized saying she had to call a guy a cab ......... the guy in question was not at the table of gentlemen but was at the bar, and she had been asked and called the cab 5 min prior. I'm all for "I'm so sorry, I forgot about you" but providing lame excuses just doesn't fly with me. Please, just either provide good service or admit when you don't. Today's experience 1 out 5.
Thus, an average of 3 stars based on two...
