I was actually excited to try this place as I had a few people tell me it was amazing and seeing the 5 star reviews.
Unfortunately my experience was the opposite... As I walked in it took me 2 minutes to decide what I wanted but there were 2 men in the front talking and no one paying attention to me as there was no one else in the restaurant, then after about 15 mins of me standing there another gentleman from the back comes and helps me.
He was nice , took my order. I ordered the sultani dinner (Filet mignon pieces and an ground beef kabob) Also and Tandoori Waziri ( boneless tandoori chicken , with ground beef kabob) Each dinner did come with rice and salad He told me it would take 15 mins but took about 25 to 30 mins. All 3 men that were working there were in the back chatting and making the food.
So let's get to the food:
In the Sultani dinner the filet Mignon pieces were tough to chew/rubbery and the ground beef kofta kabob had no flavour
In the Tandoori Waziri the boneless chicken pieces were actually a bit burnt and dry ... Also was not spicy but had too much spice added to it if that makes sense ... Kofta was the same in this plate , no flavor
(Take a look at the picture I posted , you will see the blackened tandoori chicken)
I understand this place is new and the portions are big but to be honest not worth the 42 dollars I paid for the 2 meals , complete waste of money.
Last month I did try Kabob grill on Saginaw which was way better than this.
This maybe a one off but I will not be coming here again. Felt really...
Read moreKhyber Afghan Grill in Cambridge seems to be a real local favorite, and after our visit, I can definitely see why so many people rave about their consistent, fresh, and delicious Afghan food at great prices. It's clear why it's a popular spot in the Tri-Cities. For our meal, we dove into a good spread: the Sultani Kabob Dinner, the Tandoori Waziri Kabob Dinner, another Waziri Kabob Dinner, Chapli, and some Fries. To wash it all down, we had Diet Coke, Coke Zero, and Fanta. The wait for our food was decent, which was a plus. Now, for some specifics. While the food was generally tasty, there were a couple of points I noted. The chicken in the Waziri Kabob was a bit overdone, and the ground beef skewers, while flavorful, just didn't have that typical texture you'd expect from a Beef Kofta kebab. The waffle-cut fries, which I'm pretty sure were from frozen, were okay, but they definitely lacked the "punch" you get from fresh-cut fries like at a Chick-fil-A. Also, the obvious food coloring in the Tandoori dishes isn't really necessary—the taste itself carries all the weight it needs. From an ambiance perspective, the place, including the washrooms, could use a little upkeep. Some background music or even sports on a TV would really add to the charm and make the dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, Khyber Afghan Grill offers a solid Afghan dining experience, especially with their flavorful kebabs. With a few minor adjustments, it could easily become an even more...
