We just moved into the area from Orleans, and was sad to see no Indian food here. To our relief, just days later this restaurant, which also has a location in Orleans, opened! My family has already went twice since they have opened. The first time we got butter chicken, and tikka masala both with medium heat. We are pretty comfortable with heat, but decided only to get the butter chicken medium heat next time because the tikka was a bit much for us. We still ate the whole thing though because it was so good. We went opening day for this order and the tandoori grill wasn't up and running yet so we got a fried naan that was recommended to us that was off the menu. Very yummy! They have very generous size portions, we were able to in our second order buy butter chicken mild (to try it), rice, naan, and we asked for the fried naan and they gave it to us. This was enough for two generous sized portions and was very fair in price. While I find their menu a bit confusing, if you are familiar with Indian food you can just ask for what you want and they will deliver.
Pros: Great portions, great price, decent spice level, that fried naan (Yumm!)
Cons: They do take a late lunch break so you have to wait until 4:30 if you are trying to order dinner
Great addition to the community! Recommend adding the fried naan to the...
Read moreYou will not believe how GREAT the food is here. Honestly.
I get it - small town ethnic restaurant .. can the food even compare with a large city's offerings? Fair question. I asked myself the same thing but based on all the other reviews of Mumbai Masala Grill, I was very confident that the food would be beyond just "good". Well, I am very happy to announce that all the 5-star reviews were 100% correct!! Not only does Mumbai Masala Grill manage to match the Indian food I've had in larger cities, to be honest, it -beats- anything within at least 150km.
Onion Bhaji - superb. Great taste and not oily. The green sauce is the best I've ever had. Aloo Tikki Chaat - loved it. Was hoping to find a chaat near me that can live up to what I experienced on a trip to Sudbury. Check. Paneer Lababdar - super flavourful and is a great choice for people who may be hot (spice) averse. Tandoori Chicken - probably the best I've ever had. We purchased a side of Butter Sauce and I added it to the tandoori chicken on some rice and it became the best butter chicken that I've ever had. Chana Masala (mild) - loved the complex flavours; only bought it as mild to give our kiddos an easy option. I would LOVE to try this as a hot version!! Coconut Rice and Garlic Naan - both were great compliments to the main courses...
Read moreI recently visited here on the way back to toronto from montreal and ordered the lamb curry with rice and naan combo as well as the Channa with rice and naan combo. The place is quite small with just two workers, but they were friendly and welcoming.
As for the food, the lamb curry had a strong tomato ketchup flavor to it and was sweeter than my liking. The rice lacked flavor, which was a bit disappointing, but the naan was nice and helped balance out the meal. On the other hand, the Channa curry was flavorful and had a good mix of spices that complemented the rice and naan.
The portion sizes were generous and the quantity to price ratio was definitely value for money. I was happy with the amount of food we got for the price we paid.
The restaurant had a washroom which was clean and well-maintained. The ambiance of the place was cozy and welcoming, but it was a bit crowded due to the small space.
Overall, the restaurant was a decent experience and I would recommend trying out the Channa curry if you're...
