We drove up from our of province on a whim to visit PEI for the afternoon . Not wanting the typical fast-food we stopped at this cute little hole in the wall restaurant. We were not disappointed. The service was fast and friendly the menu read like a book of Chinese and Canadian dishes and the prices were reasonable. We had a large portion of pork fried dumplings garlic fried noodles and a plate of delicately fried fish with woodear mushrooms. The dumplings are handmade , plump juicy and savory while the skins are thin and so delicate what a treat . Our second course was garlic and peanut chillie noodles, while the handmade noodles were a one two punch of strong flavors and textures .They paired very well with the strong hot chili oil provided just a pleasure for the taste buds and lastly the fish and mushroom dish was lightly seasoned but allowed the fish and mushrooms to really shine . It was truly a wonderful dinning experience and I can't recommend this wonderful little restaurant more . We will be back !...
Read moreMany reviewers describe this as a "gem" and they are right! The chef/owner is the rare cook who really pays attention to detail...for example, she makes her own noodles and wonton wrappers, and uses only organic flour. Sauces are delicious, ingredients are fresh and of high quality. As a diner who loves spicy food (and Sichuan peppercorns) her dishes do not disappoint, but she will happily tone down the spices for those who are not fans. I cannot speak authoritatively about "authenticity," but I have been to China (and to the owner's home city of Chengdu) and I believe the food is true to its roots, but perhaps a bit "lighter" and more healthful. Highly recommend the wontons in chili soup and the dry-fried noodles, but other items sampled were also excellent. Restaurant decor is simple but inviting. Prices seem very reasonable. Best Chinese food I've had at a in a long time, and certainly the best...
Read moreMy friends and I decided to try Jane's Dumplings because there's a new restaurant in town! We agreed that the food was great, and the price was affordable.
We ordered both boiled and pan-fried dumplings, red bean paste sesame balls, and the braised pork intestines with hand-made noodles. Everything was good, but I personally really liked the sesame balls because they were crisp and fluffy with a good amount of paste inside. Though, as a group we agreed that the winning dish was the braised pork noodles. The soup was tasty, the pork intestines were really savoury and appetizing, and you can really taste the quality of the noodles and the effort they put in them as they had a pleasant texture and flavour. Side note: there was a bit of mala seasoning (sichuan peppercorn and chili) inside the soup if that is/isn't to your preference.
Overall, it really tasted like home to me, and I would recommend giving this...
