I rarely leave reviews, but today I felt compelled to do so to prevent another fellow tourist from falling into a trap. I am genuinely perplexed by the overwhelmingly positive reviews for this restaurant. My experience was mediocre at best, with the only highlight being our friendly server.
The food was not outright horrendous, but it was definitely subpar. The $42 lobster roll was small and insipid. I regret not asking the server about the market price beforehand; I felt almost scammed when found out next door restaurant was offering same roll for $28. Even in NYC or Toronto both are notorious for expensive food prices, I could easily find a better lobster roll for less.(Richard's @ Wharf is the right place to go for Lobster rolls if you must have one in PEI)
This place may be worth dining in at a patio on a sunny day but they doesn't have much to offer for indoors on a gloomy day like tonight. It's lackluster ambience merely feels like neighbourhood mom and pop bar and grill - touristy scam version
The $28 salmon dish was another disappointment. The salmon was crispy and fine, but the fillet was small, and the pasta was bland—not sure what chef is trying to achieve here? The $4 oysters were the only tasty part of the meal, but they were surprisingly small, especially for PEI, it also had only 2 options for dipping -vinegrette and lemon- even Toronto restaurants serve larger oysters at the same or lower prices. Like, come on, this is PEI! Such a huge let down for our very first meal in a so-called city of foodies and luscious sea food. (For Oysters- Julio's oyster is the best in pei)
Overall, my girlfriend and I who aren't big eaters still left hungry after spending $130, including taxes and tips, at what seemed like an affordable bar and grill.
TLDR: Subpar food with steep prices that do not reflect...
Read moreFar and away, the worst dining experience I've experienced in years - anywhere. As a party of about 9 diners of locals and visitors, no one had anything positive to offer. Everything was ludicrously over-priced, bland (to the point of begging for salt) and a myriad of off-putting textures. The concept of "fresh" was never mentioned.
As somewhere that has the audacity to ask $40 for a lobster roll (none of us were that foolish), they couldn't even get simple things like "chips and dip" or a tapas of olives right.
I sampled a number of things and somehow the wings were both greasy and oily at the same time, almost slimy; the chips and dip had no flavour whatsoever and the salsa (or whatever it was supposed to be) had the texture of damp sand; the olives were just that - a few olives on a plate, lacking any bread or a meager cracker to accompany it.
It goes on but there's no point. Combined with the outrageous drink prices (Raffles Hotel in Singapore was more reasonable), it's clear this establishment is aimed squarely at the unwitting tourist market.
I had to get a bag of tortilla chips and a bottle of salsa from the corner store to satiate my chips and dip craving as I was left sadly wanting by Salt (which is only present in the name) and Sol.
I've intentionally mulled over this review and discussed it with my fellow diners for 24 hours and the only positive thing we can offer is: descent view of Charlottetown Harbour.
Now we have to take the birthday girl out again, elsewhere, to make up for this...
Read moreDisappointing experience from start to finish. The on-line menu hasn’t been replaced. So there were new prices when we showed up in person.
I ordered fish and chips. The gentleman seated at the table right beside me was given two pieces of fish before I ordered. I only got one, and was told by the Server that his pieces were so small they gave him two. He shook his head in disagreement and held up two fingers.
There was no tartar sauce available. Instead, they gave us a curry dip, which was so wrong for fish and chips. There was also no salt on the table. I asked the Served for salt twice, to no avail. Finally, another guest who overheard my request brought their salt shaker over when she was finished. The Server claimed to have not heard me ask. Evidently, the other guest clearly did.
When the fish and chips finally arrived, the serving of fish was small and dried out. Not flakey or moist at all. The French fires were cold. The coleslaw was tasteless.
There are alot of outstanding restaurant options to choose from in Charlottetown.
But this isn’t one of them.
Try The Pilot, Merchantman, Claddagh, or any of the other restaurants downtown where you get great food, great service, and...
