My time at Gahan House was so outstanding the first time, I doubled down tried my luck a second time! If you are limited in your time in Charlottetown, like I was, make sure you make this a spot to eat...especially if you like Micro Brews.
The atmosphere of Gahan House was delightful and inviting. I experienced both the patio and the main restaurant. The patio was not overly crowded which allowed for easy conversation and dining experience. The main restaurant was also unique in its division of the dining rooms and it allowed for our large group to have their own space.
The food was outstanding both evenings. I had the Fish Cakes with a a Seasoned Vet Sample Board and the Brew Buddy Burger and Vic Park Pale Ale. Everything was seasoned nicely, especially the fish cakes. I would highly recommend the Brew Buddy Burger to anyone who loves a good hearty burger - not for the faint of heart.
Now the service. It was so good that I even spoke with the manage to let him know that his servers were doing an amazing job. Night #1 we had Makenzie and she was on the ball and able to answer all our questions about the menu and the beers. She was polite and engaged the group when she came to check on us. Night #2 we had Will and I have never met a server as good as him! He was, to say the least, absolutely outstanding. He took care of our group of 12 seamlessly, always being attentive to each individual's needs.
I would dare you to try the Gahan House simply based on the service alone but the food and beer definitely adds to the reasons why to visit this...
Read moreTypical pub setting… Have visited both in a small group setting and with a larger group. This review is based on better than a dozen visits to the
Food: very good menu with lots of variety for both experienced and inexperienced tastebuds. Will say…someone at our table invariably always order the Brown Bag Fish n Chips. It’s great but take care….depending on the day, the fish can be quite greasy (not always but sometimes).
Prices are in-line with surrounding businesses. Not exceedingly high, but not low either.
Atmosphere: Lunch. daytime or standard weekday evening visits are conducive to a relaxing conversational atmosphere. On busy nights it can be quite the party atmosphere and grow beyond noisy. Music is usually at a level that necessitates raising ones voice to be heard across one’s own table which easily moves to the point of shouting in order to heard above the hubbub of the party atmosphere.
Gahan House is a pub style venue with really nice layout inside: seperate rooms and areas that afford some sense of privacy. Drinking is naturally par for the course and there is lots of local and beyond variety on the drink menu. Over the course of a few visits have noticed there maybe be some issues with the “over-serving” of patrons…pitchers of this n shots of that served in short periods of time. Hmmmm? Might perhaps be time to review the responsible beverage...
Read moreWe were recently in for a birthday dinner with a group of 12. We booked the reservation well in advance so expected they would be more than able to accommodate us. When we arrived, we didn’t see our waitress for 15-20 minutes. When she finally took our drink order, and didn’t seem very patient with our unorganized group, it was about 30 minutes to receive our drinks. We ordered our food which took another 30-40 minutes, and when it came out, only 3 items came. Over the next 15 minutes, the rest of the food slowly came out, except for one dish which was missed altogether. We weren’t offered refills on drinks, and we sat there for about 10 minutes after our food arrived with no cutlery before they finally brought some. We had hardly finished eating when the bills were in front of us, and it should be said that none of the bills were divided correctly. Unfortunately a bad experience at a typically good restaurant, and luckily the food was good when it finally came out, but will not be returning with a group as our experience...
