Where do I even begin.......nearly everything is subpar at this restaurant. From the hours of operation to the menu to the food itself.
But let's start from the menu, the menu is very slim. And usually I think that's a good thing because I think it's important for a restaurant to cook something right then to cook 10 different things wrong. But they basically made some soup and either served it with noodle as ramen or with rice as a sort of chazuke I imagine. And like maybe 2~3 appetizers to choose from. Which is unfortunate because their ramen soup isn't very good.
Our group first decided to get one original ramen + one perilla ramen (which is original seasoned with perilla) + one porksoup with rice + deep fried dumpling (or deep fry fried dumpling) + smoked pork individual. And we got there probably around 34 only to find out that they're out of rice already. Even though they open around noon and it's only been 34 hours since then. So we end up getting two original ramen.
The original is okay as far as I know even though it's a little salty and doesn't have the rich umami flavour one might expect from a proper Japanese ramen place. But the perilla ramen is awful. For starter, the perilla flavour doesn't do much for me, but the texture is what really gets me. They basically sprinkle a handful of minced perilla on the regular which gives off the texture of sawdust. So there you have it, picture a bowl of noodle with a handful of sawdust on top will pretty much describe what it taste like. In fact, of all the things we ordered, I think the deep fry fried dumpling is the only thing I'm okay with (even though one of us think it's a little too sweet for her taste).
In conclusion, as I understand it, this restaurant recently changed its name and redesigned their entire menu. It's a pity that for whatever reason they cut the good part and left the lousy item behind. Maybe the talented chef find better prospect. And until they can find proper replacement chef, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone with a...
Read moreKind of a love hate relationship with this place. Starting with the love. Amazing Korean(ish?) ramen cooked with care. The pork is not only included (Japanese places you have to pay extra) , but sizeable, smoky, sweet, succulent and sooo tender. The marinated egg is soft and gooey almost melting into the broth when you split it open. The noodles are a great tasting, handmade medium cooked perfectly for the flavorful broth. Definitely recommend the spicy broth, it's just the right kind of flavory spicy combo that you're not dying trying to eat. They have HERO spicy and it's definitely spicy AF although I feel the flavor slightly falls off. Plot twist, get the spicy cheese! It's the weirdest combo but the gooey melted mozzarella with the noodles is a great combination and adds more heartiness to the dish.
Now the hate. The music is TERRIBLE! Like they have a great sound system with great clarity and bass. . . To play every female depressing, annoying, whiney pop ballad you've never heard (for a reason!). And it never ends! Endless s*itty pop songs/remixes and superballads at a slightly loud enough to make you cringe volume. The quirky figurines and Impersonal service is fully okay but the music loses two stars from me
Go there for the food and you won't be disappointed. But you WILL be aurally assaulted by Demi Lovato singing about how...
Read moreI was disappointed with our meal overall. So... It was more of a fusion type of cuisine than a traditional Korean type.
Bottle Sapporo $3.99 ONLY 1/2 Soy Sweet DF Chicken $13.33 Beef Bibimbap $12.14 Gamja Tang $26.67 Seafood Ramen Soup $13.33
First of all, they gave us a lot of menu but several things were crossed out. They no longer of the Budae Tang and the other ones I saw online earlier. Even the Seafood Ramen Soup did not have any ramen because they said they "ran out" (Rice was offered instead). I found in our GamjaTang that half of the pot was full of "ramen", did they mean a different type of noodle?
The D/F chicken was salty but had a good flavour. However it was deep fried way too long causing it to become very hard to chew. Almost like stiff. Bibimbap was brought out lukewarm-cold. I was expecting hot but I guess it was alright. Gamjatang did not taste like anything I was expecting. I was expecting pork bones where one would have to chew a bit to get the meat off and potatoes in it. There was no potatoes and instead a lot of "ramen noodles" and few pork bone. Because the ramen was in there, all the soup seem to be absorbed by it, minimal soup left. :(
I would not recommend this place based on my experience. Besides, parking is...
