My girlfriend and I ordered the Swedish meatballs like usual on Jan 21, 2025 at around 5:20pm. We asked the young woman serving us to add 4 extra meatballs while ordering, but they had run out of meatballs and told us there would be a 2 minute wait. “Absolutely, no problem” we said. My girlfriend then says “Could I not have the lingonberry sauce” as the worker reaches for it. It luckily doesn’t make it to the plate. I said “I’m sorry could she have fries instead of mashed potatoes, please?” As she plops a spoonful of them on. I know at this point we’re asking a lot, but I plead nonetheless. She then angrily scrapes the potatoes off the plate and begins to put fries on. She puts, I kid you not, 9 fries. We had seen the people in front of us get mounds of fries so we were a little shocked. We waited for the woman serving us to come back to the counter as she was talking with colleagues waiting for the meatballs. A colleague puts the fresh meatballs in the tray and adds the remaining meatballs to our plate. My girlfriend proceeds to ask if she could get a couple more fries, having seen the people in front of us get much, MUCH more than her and feeling robbed. She says “I can give you a side of fries but it will cost extra. Outrageous, but whatever. SHE THEN ADDS THE LINGON BERRY SAUCE ONTO THE PLATE. We had specifically asked not to have it. A dangerous event for food safety. Neither me nor my girlfriend have had such a horrible experience with workers at IKEA before. And again, neither of us are very confrontational so we believed we did what we could by asking this employee for what seemed like reasonable requests. The food is so great and it disappoints me that this worker was not at all accommodating. I love going here to eat after shopping it’s so convenient, but PLEASE at least LISTEN to customers. We are very quiet people, causing no problems. My question is why is it that we were...
Read moreOur group had their Swedish Meatballs Meal, Plant Balls Meal and the Vegan Chocolate Torte. The meals are nothing fancy for $8.99 and $7.99, but as diners who visit IKEA once a year, the food has a nostalgic and comforting feel. The mashed potatoes were creamy, and the different balls had good flavour. I was a big fan of their vegan chocolate torte, which was rich and decadent without the use of eggs and gluten! I'd definitely order this again, and appreciate the vegan dessert option! Water is self-serve by the other beverages and is complimentary.
We unknowingly went on Swe-dish Thursdays, so it was packed for the lunch hour with many families in line for food. There was a bit of a wait, but the line moves quickly (finding seating is another question, but we were fortunate to find a table soon after paying). I was looking forward to having their Veggie Balls, but had to settle for the Plant Balls as they weren't serving the Veggie Balls on their menu.
The only minor issue we had was when we were paying full price (because we weren't IKEA Family Members). We were happy to pay full price because we were unaware of the Thursday special and were not signed up for membership, but the cashier had insisted we keep the receipt as they said we'd be able to get a partial refund on that food bill if we became IKEA Family Members at a later date. While we were eating, we signed up for membership, but another staffer in the restaurant area said we could only use it for future meal savings and couldn't get the refund. It wasn't a big issue for us, but we were left questioning why the cashier was insistent about a refund as we hadn't asked for one in the...
Read moreTried the haddock and chips and it was extremely mediocre and not the best tasting. The fries were good standard fries but the actual fried fish was super dry, and as seen in the pictures, even had burnt crust that was very hard and abrasive to the mouth. The quality was poor.
The NY cheesecake was barely edible and didn’t taste like real cheesecake at all. It was quite acidic and tasted very processed and not freshly made and had a very preservative heavy taste. Would not recommend the cheesecake.
The wait is insane and they appear extremely understaffed as there was one person serving food in each of the two food lines and one cashier for a giant crowd of people. The workers seem to be doing their best and appear overworked for what they have to do and getting your food is a bit of a chaotic process.
Thankfully there is a lot of seating and the self serve drinks are nice but when we went lots of the syrups for the drinks ran out and weren’t working and many of the drinks were watered down.
The IKEA food box outside is way better if...
