Disappointed with our visit today. It was good up until the last 2 minutes which ruined any desire to return until COVID is no longer an issue.
My parents and I found ourselves in Coquitlam today, and as my Mom used to frequently meet friends here, we decided to make a day of it and stop on for brunch. The hostess had us leave a contact name and number (good to see) and there were only a few regulars scattered around, so distancing was easy.
We sat in a section that was empty when we arrived, but filled up by the time we were leaving. The tables were adequately spaced, but it was a little squishy once all the chairs were filled.
The food we had was good. Both my parents had the $5.95 breakfast and said it was excellent. I ordered off menu and got just a straight up grilled cheese and fries, and it was cooked well with a decent amount of cheese. Ourserver was friendly and attentive, even as the pub got busier.
We noticed signs posted in several places stating that patrons must remain seated, no self service, and don't stand at other tables to socialize. It seemed like most people were abiding by this, until we tried to leave. The was a man seated at the bar and another man standing by him talking, and blocking the only route of the area we were seated in. I stopped and waited for him to move but he did not. He made eye contact with me, I mentioned to my party being "trapped" in the section, and he stayed where he was and continued his conversation. He was blocking both directions of flow and I was forced try and side step my way past him. I thought that he was incredibly rude and annoyed at the situation, but it was getting busy, and you can't expect the staff to be right on top of every person who breaks the rules right away. That is until my Mom, who has met the owner a couple times, said she was 90% sure that it was him. She is pretty good with faces, so I was about 90% more annoyed about the whole situation.
I was going to go back and say something, but at that point, a large group was coming in and the hostess was having to deal with them and their larger than COVID allowed group size, and putting myself in the middle of a large group with no masks defeats the purpose of me being upset about guidelines not...
Read moreI was looking for a sports bar with sound and atmosphere that the televisions were not props and a distraction only. Woody's Pub had proven to be the right choice for the Tri-City area. What was great was the establishment was open at 10:00AM on Sunday morning for the opening season of Week One and a great breakfast was available to accompany the action on the many televisions that each television could be switched to any game or sport of your choice. There are very few establishments that can offer that option. I was particularly interested in the staff whether on the floor or in the kitchen been able to accomodate and deliver individual wants and needs. I had stayed for a second football game during which I had enjoyed a battered shrimp special and then a chicken wings special with some cold and fresh pints of house draft. I was tempted to stay for a steak dinner special but my stomach was so previously satisfied I thought a good exercise walk to the Braid Station Sky Train would be a good idea! As an update to my previous review, I had decided to visit Woody's Pub last Monday afternoon and evening where I was pleasantly surprised by a pizza special but of course began with two plates of hot wings as an appetizer while watching a live with sound Vancouver Canucks game on a big screen screen television. My personal opinion is that for the Tri-City area, this public house has proven to be a great sports bar, appetizer and food special place that has been consistent with offering a total experience as I am finding that many establishments in our neighbourhood have become lounge houses and have graduated into high price venues without improvement to the food quality, drink selection and overall performance especially to the regular customers who have continued to support these establishments during very difficult times for BOTH the customer and the venue but justify those increases without any consideration to those customers including my favourite rant about condiments subject to surcharges! My full support to Woody's Pub for their continued efforts to reflect upon the needs of...
Read moreI have never left a negative review on Google, but here is my first. A group of us came to what used to be our favourite hangout spot to watch the Dodgers game last night. I made a reservation the day prior, drove over an hour from White Rock, and arrived early (5:10 for a 5:30 game). Before sitting down, I specifically asked if we could have the game on, and the waitress agreed, otherwise, we would’ve gone elsewhere.
Despite multiple requests, the game never came on. We ended up watching the first three innings on a phone while 20+ TVs played Canadian football and the Blue Jays, which barely anyone in the restaurant was even watching.
My friend, clearly a Dodgers fan wearing the jersey and hat, went up to an older bartender, only to be told, “no one cares about the Dodgers.” I went up myself and explained we had asked earlier and were a group of fans who just wanted one TV showing the game. The other bartender’s response was “What do you want me to do?” I found both bartenders unbelievably rude and dismissive.
After missing most of the game, they finally put it on the smallest TV in the corner, forcing us all to crane our necks just to see. The bartenders were useless, disrespectful, and completely lacking in basic customer service.
I still left an 18% tip because we were a large group and didn’t want to punish the servers, but honestly, in retrospect, we should’ve gone to Canadian Brewhouse. This used to be one of our go-to places, but after last night, I’m never coming back. Absolutely disappointing experience that ruined what could’ve been one of the best postseason games ever to watch live: Ohtani pitched 6 scoreless innings, struck out 10, and hit 3...
