Wendy's — Restaurant in Courtenay

Once upon a time, I gave this location a 5 star review cause the food was fresh, the service friendly, and the restaurant was clean.

Fast forward 6 years, and I'm giving it a 1 cause everything has changed.

The last 3 visits I've been served lukewarm meat that's way overcooked and has obviously been on a warming plate for quite some time.

Today, it took 5 minutes of standing at the front calling for help before anyone realized I was there and, when my food arrived, the fries were cold, they were out of most of the options for beverages, and only offered a small drink with my combo. And to make things worse, they were out of hot sauce, they forgot my extra pickles, and the ketchup dispensers were empty.

The staff wasn't so much rude as just unfriendly. They seemed to not know what warmth and customer service looks like and I certainly felt far from welcomed in their space as they chattered away in the kitchen in Hindu.

I'm all for giving a place second chances but this is three terrible visits in a row and I won't be coming back.

*UPDATE: December 30th, 2024. Same bullshit, different day with these useless people. I don't know why I thought it would be any different but I dropped in here for a quick bite to eat because I was in a hurry and desperate. Another gentleman walked in about 5 minutes before I did as I completed some paperwork in my car. When I walked in he was still standing there at the front desk waiting to be acknowledged. I knocked on the counter and hollered to the people in the back that there were customers waiting and it still took them another 2 full minutes before they even acknowledged us.

At this point, there's nothing left to do but call head office and make a formal complaint because this is some BS. They sit there in the back chatting like it's an Indian social club instead of a job they're paid to do and they're so distracted by their chatter that they don't even do the job well.

Once again, my burger was served from a warming plate and it was definitely on there for quite some time because the cheese was melted but the top of it had time to resolidify. The napkin dispenser was empty, the ketchup dispenser was half full but there were no containers, none of the table tops had been wiped for quite some time as there were crumbs and marks from cups all over them ....the only positive was that the fries...

Was very dissatisfied with the staff at our Courtenay, BC Wendy's on our most recent visit. (We used to visit quite regularly, but now are reconsidering whether that will continue to be the case in the future.) The newer staff member on shift at the front that night was having difficulties with entering our order, and the shift supervisor on staff (Ritu) was not very polite to me when she came to the till to assist him. After she entered the necessary information into the till, he then went on to plate our large chili purchase as that is the front counter's responsibility, and filled the chili bowl a small amount fuller than normal. I had already handled the chili bowl and hot sauce packets he had put on our tray (he had given us a few too many of the hot sauce packets, and I mentioned quite nicely that I only needed three, moving the chili and the three hot sauce packets aside as he took the extra packets away). Ritu then proceeded to walk up very quickly, right in front of me, and took the chili bowl as I was grabbing a spoon off the self-serve counter beside the register/tray counter, and dumped some of the chili out of our bowl and back into the chili pot!! I am still very disappointed in the manner in which we were treated during this visit. This was very poor customer service, as the way his oversight with the top-up of our chili was not handled by the supervisor in the proper manner. It was a terrible experience that we will not...

This Location has been watched for the last 8 months & multiple people have been given food that’s not fully cooked multiple times by the same evening shift restaurant employee’s. It’s really a shame because the lunch time employee’s go out of their way to make their customers happy. With the amount of food poisoning from the evening staff this place needs to be shut down & re-evaluated. It’s really a shame to say this as the lunch hour shift is amazing. I hope all who enjoy Wendy’s have a better experience than the team running this experiment. Unfortunately our team that has conducted this experiment refuses to continue this experiment due to an extremely high percentage of food poisoning from the evening shift. As an organization we know who is to blame but we hope that corporate steps in before us. If we have to release footage to prove this is a real concern we will. We have lab tests confirming salmonella from half cooked chicken as well as hamburger disease from uncooked beef.
