I have eaten at Sakura twice now, the reasoning for the 2 star rating is purely the customer service, which was awesome...the rolls not so much! I have had the Avocado Roll, Chicken Teriyaki Roll, Dynamite with Cream Cheese Roll and Sunset Roll. All of the rolls had a funny taste which was a total turn off, and some had suprise ingredients in or on them. The Dynamite with Cream cheese came with crab in it as well as fish eggs ontop which was not in the roll description, and the Sunset also came with crab in it as well as it being baked with mozzarella cheese, which again was not in the roll description. They were both in my opinion, disgusting and I couldn't finish either of them. The ingredients didn't blend well together, resulting in the rolls tasting off. Thankfully the waitress was understanding and was very accommodating, not to mention extremely nice!!! All in all, I don't think I will be going back to Sakura unless I am only planning on having the Tempura (which is delicious). Rolls are my favorite dish at a sushi restaurant and the 4 that I've had from Sakura were gross. I also think the pricing is a bit high for the quality of food that is produced.

I would recommend Fubuki Sushi for an all around amazing...

I chose this place for my husband and I as we seen that it stated could be the best sushi in BC. Considering it’s not right by the ocean for the freshest seafood, I was hopeful that it was going to going to be something spectacular. We are from out of town, travel extensively, and love our sushi. We chose the table in the right far corner but out of sight out of mind. Our service was not the best. My husband had $21- seafood udon. Poor guy! He doesn’t like spicy. He swore there was lots of cayenne. He worked through it. There was barely any seafood AT ALL!! He said there was 2 maybe 3 shrimp, one clam, lots of cabbage… I felt bad for him but he ate half of it. I had the Deluxe Bento Box with the choice of chicken teriyaki. The chicken was tough and not good. I didn’t eat it but everything else was good. I have definitely had better. At many other sushi restaurants. My husband is working up here in Cranbrook and the first thing he did when we got back to the hotel as there was a table of the crew was tell them “do not go to the sushi...

I’m from Vancouver, so I never get sushi out when I’m in the BC interior or anywhere in Alberta where I live now. But this little place was beside our hotel in Cranbrook and I was told by someone walking by that it’s amazing sushi so decided to give it a try.

First off it’s got the Japanese sushi bar vibe down pat, loved every aspect of it. Second, there’s 4-5 Japanese men behind the counter preparing everything fresh in front of your eyes. Both major green flags for me!

Now to the menu, not only full of favourites and things everyone loves on their sushi menu but some very unique things that blew my mind such as tempura banana roll with blueberry sauce. It was dessert for us and we almost went back for more! We tried a few things and everything was the best we’d had in a very long time if not ever. I can’t even think of a place in Vancouver that I could compare to quality especially factoring in prices. And the prices were totally reasonable, making this a perfect stop for an easy eat on a budget!

Next time I’m in Cranbrook I will...

I’ve eaten here several times now, usually a month or more apart (with the exception of my birthday, when I came for both lunch and dinner!). Each visit has been consistently excellent. I’ve often had the same server, who is always an absolute delight and makes the experience even better. The service overall has been nothing short of amazing. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and delicious, with great vegetarian options that I really appreciate. The only time I experienced slower service was when the place was packed with not a single empty seat, which is understandable. The only small downside is that they don’t take reservations for smaller groups, which can make planning a little tricky—but it definitely won’t stop me from coming back. This is one of my favorite spots, and I’ll continue to support it wholeheartedly.

Me and my sister were passing through on our way to Calgary from Cawford Bay, and decided to stop in for dinner. Five out of five experience all around! We both got to try some raw octopus for the first time and were pleasantly surprised with the beef tataki! We had to wait a bit for the green tea and thought the soy sauce holder was a perfume smelly thing, but weren't too picky on the wait and the soy sauce made us laugh. XD Feels very authentic as it's cooked by professional Japanese chefs and we got to watch them cook our meals at the bar counter from our booth. If your wanting some good sushi and a fancy dinner, totally go here! (Ate: Green Tea, Miso soup, Pork Gyoza, Unagi (Eel) Sashimi, Salmon Sashimi, Octopus Sashimi, Beef Tataki, Ginger Cake and Green Tea Icecream)

Decent atmosphere but not the best food. Also the portions and actual dishes are not what was expected. We ordered tempura and a couple combos for two people. Tempura was woefully short on substance. Three very small prawns and three slivers of yam very underwhelming would not recommend. Spicy combo had spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls. Decent but over sauced and very little fish. Cucumber rolls were excellent and over sized. Dynamite combo had a horrible roll was filled with crab mix should have been called a Calimite roll because it was a Cali roll with a prawn in it. Not what was expected again. Nigiri was fine but tiny. Service good and location is great just can’t compare to the coast.
