Went in today (Dec'24) after having not been in for a few years. I had a craving for a smoked salmon and cream cheese everything bagel and i knew from previous experience that their food was good and this was on the menu. I just deleted my old review to write this, in which i stated all positives about the food adding that the price was "refreshingly reasonable". This is no longer exactly accurate. Today, my food had good flavour, however, the bagel was so hard it squashed the contents out when trying to bite through. When I saw that it was being made with 3 capers placed individually on the cream cheese, i asked for "lots of capers" with a friendly smile, this resulted in an additional 3 capers being added (again individually). It did have a sufficient amount of cream cheese, smoked salmon and onions. I also ordered a lg latte which was hot and excellent. My issue today is with the price. The latte was $6 which is expensive but in line with most other places so I'm going to say that was fine. The bagel was $9. Yes, 9. I don't get sticker shocked often but this one got me. When my total was announced to me at $15.20 I thought, "Wait, is that right?" I got in my car, thinking,"Am I out of touch with the prices?" So to determine if I was or not, I called the place I've always thought of as having the best Smoked salmon bagel for the past 20 years to check their current price, "Mama Gratti's " in Scotia Square, Hfx. Their price is (rounded) $6.50 with the same toppings and $7.50 with additional veggies. This is including tax. Now, granted, I haven't been to Mama G's in a while, but I know that they have provided consistently great food and service for two decades so I doubt that has changed recently. Now, I'm not saying that Montreal Bagel isn't worthy of your business, they make great food and uniquely flavoured bagels, but speaking for myself, I won't be getting my smoked salmon cravings fulfilled...
Read moreTried here on a weekend after they first opened and it was later afternoon unfortunately, so 90% of their inventory had sold out for the day. My friend and I each ended up buying a lemon type pastry, and they were fine, but we were disappointed to not get to try a bagel. So after learning of the popularity of the place, I came back another morning to try their breakfast one with bacon & egg, and it was yum! Also have had the turkey club one for lunch one day. I've tried most of their flavors with butter or cream cheese via a coworker who picks them up on his way to the office many days. I think my favorites are the poppy seed or sesame seed. The strawberry one, which is entirely pink and cute-looking, didn't really have a strawberry flavor. The chocolate chip had a few chips in it and was decent, but not chocolatey enough for me. Same with the blueberry. The Everything with cream cheese is very flavorful. So is the Onion & Garlic one, very similar to the Everything, with lots of flavor. Really like the pumpernickel with cream cheese as well, seemed to be toasted to perfection, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The Oreo is good, with crumbled bits of cookie on top of a plain bagel. The bagels in general are definitely my favorite in the city though. Staff owners are very friendly. Only thing that could make this place better would be if it was closer to my neighborhood of Clayton Park, and that it was bigger inside, to be able to sit and enjoy a bagel on site (vs the maybe 4 small tables the place actually has, which are usually taken). Good prices as well, when you buy a half or full dozen especially. (Note: two years later, I agree with everything...
Read moreOrdered 4 different type of bagels had 2 for myself, a breakfast bagel in veggie spice bagel, salmon bagel on garlic bagel with a coffee.
Decent coffee, they had a couple of sweetener options got a Splenda.
Wasn’t a fan of the onion in the salmon bagel, the breakfast bagel was decent, really liked the veggie spice bagel, but both bagels were pressed down when served.
Ended up getting 1 veggie spice bagel w herb and garlic cream cheese and 1 strawberry bagel with cream cheese for my friends to go.
Was hoping to find some thicker/fluffier bagels but all of them were thinner.
Amazing pricing, wouldn’t mind paying 20% more if the bagels were 20% thicker....
