Stuie's Diner – A Nostalgic Bite of Comfort with a Few Minor Bumps
I visited Stuie’s Diner on a bustling Saturday afternoon, and it was clear from the moment I walked in that this place is no hidden gem—nearly every seat was taken, and both the kitchen and bar were alive with activity. Yet, despite the crowd, I was promptly welcomed and shown to a free table without delay. Within just a few minutes, a server was ready to take my order.
Following the house recommendation, I opted for the strawberry milkshake and strawberry pie with cream. My order arrived within 5–10 minutes, impressively quick considering the packed house.
The pie was a standout—balanced sweetness, a well-baked crust, and a delightfully soft, flavorful filling. The milkshake matched the pie in quality, boasting a rich, creamy strawberry flavor that hit all the right nostalgic notes.
The atmosphere of Stuie’s is one of its strongest assets. It carries a classic, traditional diner vibe, with a clientele that matches—friendly, laid-back, and seemingly loyal. The setting evokes a sense of home-cooked meals and familiar comfort.
As for drawbacks, there were two that stood out. First, the straw for the milkshake was too narrow for the thickness of the drink, making it slightly frustrating to enjoy. Second, parking is clearly insufficient on weekends, which could be an issue for many potential guests.
Verdict: Stuie’s Diner offers a warm, inviting slice of Americana with quality food and fast service, though a few practical improvements—especially regarding parking and drinkware—would elevate the experience further. Still, for anyone seeking a traditional diner with heart, this...
Read moreI tried their Smokey and The Bandit hot dog and it did not disappoint. Juicy, crunchy skin and yes, it was Smokey too. It was dressed with grilled sauerkraut and I topped it off with some yellow mustard. It was what I remember Toronto Hotdogs to have tasted like from my youth. (Joyful tear) I opted out of their combo so I could try their Smokehouse burger. If a 5 guys burger and an old school Banquet burger from C&W (C&Dubs… For those who know), yeah so if they smashed (lol); this would be their love child. Double smashed patty with American cheese with two thick slices of Smokey, spiced bacon crowned by three rings of crispy golden fried onions and drizzled ever so delicately was some ketchup. All this goodness was sammiched between what tasted like a butter toasted Kaiser bun. It was a cool vibe and the service was good and the food was cooked to perfection. This place reminded me of the old school tv show Cheers. The customers coming in and out all were greeted mostly by name but all with a warm smile and pleasant attitude. If you enjoy 50’s retro diners with food to match, this is definitely on your to do list. They close kinda early if you ask me, but if my food was as good as theirs, I’d dictate those kind of hours too. Thanks for...
Read moreGood food, horrible service, very uncomfortable. I am writing this after my my 3rd visit to this diner, and this was the last straw.
It’s a true retro diner, including assigned seating for “urban” looking gentleman such as myself. Nothing like spending 8 hours on the road to have the waitress block you at the entrance, spreading her arms as if to block ingress, pointing to the left side booths aggressively and telling me “you can sit there”. (Note there was only 1 family in the diner, other than that, tumbleweeds). Okay, maybe it’s a COVID thing. Then not 3 minutes after being forcefully directed to sit in a booth, what appeared to be a “local” rolled on up in a big white pickup, hopped out and strolled right up and grabbed a seat at the counter. The only difference between that customer (that I can see ) and me is the depth of our tan.
Other than being made to feel like a suspected dine and dasher, the Smokie was delicious with great sauerkraut. Would’ve been even nicer to be able to sit at the counter like everybody else. Maybe the elderly lady who was so nice to me the first two times can take a moment to teach the grandchildren working the front how to greet and feed a...
