This review is for takeout, which we've gotten from Ming Court twice.
The first time, we ordered the family dinner for four with lemon chicken, along with a couple of other items. For this meal, we thought everything was okay, about as greasy as typical Western-style Chinese food. Notably, the lemon sauce for the chicken was grossly sweet, everything else was somewhat bland, and there was a ton of rice. I didn't review at that time because I don't like posting fewer than 4 stars.
The second time, we ordered 7 items a la carte. The deep fried wontons was AMAZING. I have no idea how they made the wonton skin so delicious and crispy and light; usually they are much more firm and crunchy. I have never had a better deep fried wonton. The almond chicken was also delicious - it was a good size chicken breast to begin with, a good amount of almond, and really nice flavor. Sweet and sour chicken was delicious, honey garlic boneless pork delicious, dry garlic boneless pork a little big dry but still yummy, stir fried tofu in black bean sauce the tofu tasted unusual (maybe oily), but the sauce was fantastic, typical chicken chow mein, and really delicious deluxe bean sprout chow mein (I had seconds and thirds, when usually chow mein isn't interesting enough for me).
When I went into the restaurant for pick-up, there was a line, and the phone was ringing off of the hook. They lady behind the counter was polite and helpful, and there was a very nice vibe between her, myself, and the other customers awaiting their dinners. If we have another experience like the last one, I will update this review and...
Read moreIt's rare that I give a business a ONE star rating, but this place has earned it. Their food is average and the service needs an attitude adjustment. My wife placed an order to be delivered to her cousin's family in Ladner as her cousin (a caregiver for seniors) was just diagnosed positive for COVID and is isolated in her bedroom, so unable to cook for her family. She requested Chinese food and unfortunately, Ming Court is the only local offering. The woman on the phone was extremely rude to my wife; when asked about a tip, my wife at first didn't catch what she was asking due to her heavy Chinese accent, then snapped that it was for the driver. My wife offered $5 and the woman then hung up. No good bye or thank you. Due to being Christmas Eve, the delivery would take 1-2 hours. It arrived over 3 hours later, and the family had to eat something else while they were waiting. My wife's cousin told us that they are often rude. While I understand that it was likely one of the busiest nights of the year for takeout, there is no excuse for rudeness, and this place has been around long enough that they should be used to working under pressure in the restaurant industry. We've eaten here before and their food does not stand out. I'd recommend ordering from Richmond or Tsawwassen. Ming Court, here is your lump of coal for bad business practices. Work on your attitude and service and maybe your ratings will improve in 2021. Although judging from your lack of response to the number of bad reviews you have, it appears you don't...
Read moreI’ve ordered from Ming Court a couple of times. Being the only Chinese restaurant in Ladner (humorously/wrongly enough, the Ladner yellow pages lists a Vietnamese restaurant under the Chinese food section), it often has to make do if you feel like westernized Chinese food. The food itself is reminiscent of what you’d find in a food court.
Recently, I had a couple of friends over for some backyard takeout and placed an order early in the day for an evening delivery. We were told it would arrive between 5:15 and 5:30. After a couple of phone calls where the restaurant owner blamed the driver for often arriving late, the food arrived at 6:25. The delivery driver claimed the restaurant doesn’t tell him when the food is supposed to be delivered by, he just plans his route, packs up the food and delivers in the most convenient order.
Regardless, we will settle for subpar Chinese food no more. In fact, we might be better going to Tsawwassen Mills and loading up on a four item combo and it would be just as good, cheaper and hotter than the food...
