Too bad I can't give zero stars...The service was rude, unprofessional and indifferent. We called in to book a table for 13 and the response was immediately "I don't know if we can do it", when we said we won't be coming they immediately said "Okay, we can do it". What?? We ordered the food and it took 35-40 minutes to arrive even though the place was half empty. When we complained, the manager (a woman in her fifties) came and initially apologized but then explained to us it was actually not that long (not true, one of us happened to be looking at her phone when we were ordering and noticed the time). The manager then left only to come back (without us asking for it) and showed us a printed note which said the order was put in 3 minutes after the time we said (if it was put on the computer at that time we must have ordered it a few minutes earlier...). This manager came back several times later and kept arguing and telling us we are wrong. One of our young children was crying because he waited so long for his food and she said "the child was already crying when he came into the restaurant, it isn't because of us"!!! One of the waiters actually said that "other children at the restaurant are behaving fine, only your child is crying"!!! So rude...At the end we got the bill only to find out we were automatically billed 15% gratuity!! Only when the owner showed up at our request did they remove the gratuity. I eat at restaurants all the time and sometimes it takes a while for the food to show up and if I complain they apologize. Not this lady manager, she just kept coming back, arguing and repeating how we, the paying customers, are wrong. Never seen such behaviour from a manager and I will never set a foot...
Read moreExcellent kitchen staff, mediocre (mostly) service staff, fairly clean establishment. My last 2 visits, (Jan ‘23 and about 4 months earlier) were very similar experiences. First I will say the cooks are excellent, the quality of the meals were exceptional. The restaurant was very clean and well kept. With that said, the general service was not good. One waitress was working very hard and doing her best, but the 4 or 5 other people wandering around, including the manager, were not picking up the slack. I waited a bit too long to get a table, they were busy but not overly so for the number of staff present. I ordered coffee and water with my breakfast, the coffee came and the water did not. When my meal came I asked about some water and a refill of the coffee (the coffee cup had been obviously empty for a while). This time the water came but my coffee never did get refilled, despite my discreet attempts at gaining attention from the 5 staff members (including the manager) that wandered past my table. No one asked how I was enjoying my meal either. The meal itself could not have been better, it was well prepared and was hot. My original server was clearly working hard and I thought she did well keeping up with the other tables, but there is only so much 1 person can do. This location is clearly suffering from poor management as evidenced by the indifference shown by the majority of the staff and the poor example set by management. I have been a regular customer off and on for years, I am afraid I will need to look elsewhere in future. Unless or until they fix their service issues I can’t recommend this establishment. 3 stars were earned entirely by...
Read moreWe arrived about 1830 and there was only one other party in the restaurant. We got seated quickly but then it quickly went downhill from there.
We wanted to try the AYCE fish and chips promotion that they're running radio ads for. 1. There was no mention of the special when being seated and 2. The staff didn't even seem to know that the promotion was on because when we tried to order it the server said that they weren't doing that. Although, the specials card in the table did have that as an option.
Service should've been way better given that there was nobody left in the restaurant by the time we got our food. While waiting, the table behind us had to beg for a to go container because they really had to leave. Another customer came in for take out asking for 2 pieces of fish and chips with no coleslaw. She ended up receiving 1 fish plus coleslaw.
Our fish looked good but now I'm really questioning whether 1. It is cod as advertised. Does cod really come that thin? 2. Whether it was cooked properly. It seemed kind of translucent but tasted fine and flaky.
Our entire table ordered the AYCE but yet they said they could only offer more fish 1 piece at a time because we can't share. Then when that 1 piece did come it exuded oil when lightly pressed (yes I understand it's fried but visible pooling of oil?)
When the wife tried to order another piece we were instead offered the bill! When the piece did come we were offered the bill once again!
What's the rush?!?!?!? It's only 1915 and your restaurant closes at 2100 and there's nobody else...
