My first time eating at a slightly more upscale Indian restaurant...and it was amazing! š„ Came here for some late dinner with my Indian buddy and it wasn't too busy so we were seated right away. Originally we were seated at a table for two that was quite dark because of the lack of lighting in the area, so I had requested to our server if we could move to a brighter table behind us which she granted. The main reason for this is because I am not of a fan of eating in the dark, and as a food critic/reviewer, I like to see what I am eating clearly so I can provide better feedback. We ordered the following for two people: * Tikka 3 Ways * Bhatti ki Macchi * Garlic Naan * Missi Rotti * Puran Singh Da Tariwala Murgh * Dum murgh biryani * Falooda Kulfi I ordered the tikka 3 ways for my appetizer and it was really good! I love that it was done 3 ways so I can taste which one I like the most...the spicy one was my favorite. The cook on the chicken was perfect and not dry. For our mains we got the chef's special Puran Singh Da Tariwala Murgh and Chicken Biryani. For my bread I ordered the garlic naan and my Indian buddy ordered the missi rotti. Everything tasted delicious! The gravy was rich, savory, with a bit of spice and the chicken biryani was piping hot and cooked perfectly! š The garlic naan was soft, flaky and fresh! The texture was really good and perfect for dipping into the curry. The only con my Indian buddy said was the missi rotti was slightly overcooked. Overall though the appetizers and mains were delicious. For dessert I ordered the Falooda Kulfi and all I have to say is...WOW! The ice cream dessert was bursting with Indian flavours...I felt like I teleported to India when I ate a spoon full of this delicious creamy dessert. This was definitely the star of the meal tonight! I am not a huge dessert guy - but this one I truly enjoyed...I also like that it wasn't overly sweet. šØš§ The service here was excellent. Our server refilled our waters regularly and even educated me with some of the food I was ordering and eating. She also made sure we were getting new plates, silverware and napkins for each course. š Interior and seating was also good. The table is a nice height and the chairs are padded. The only con is that some of the tables here are placed in darker areas of the restaurant...I guess it's fine if you prefer candle light dinners, but in my opinion there should be a bit more lighting that stretches across the wall where the tables are since they are further away from the glass windows and get blocked out by the higher booth seating which makes those areas feel less important. Overall though, I enjoyed eating here and plan to eat here again to try their other menu items. I am a big fan of Indian food since I grew up in Surrey, so it's nice to be able to treat myself with some indian fine dining once in a while. š

As a certified chef myself, who also teaches Indian cooking classes and sells her own handmade spice blends, I've personally waited for the last 8 years in BC, for an Indian restaurant I would recommend to my friends in a heart beat. And I could not be more thrilled when I found out that Sanjeev Kapoor's "The Yellow Chilli" that I used to go to with my family in India growing up, is now finally here! I mean the food is as authentic as it will get in Canada - I seriously mean it! The flavours - spectacular! Forget the bastardized Indian meals from over-hyped restaurants like Vij's and alike - you want Indian - THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO. And that's only one aspect of it - because for me and my loved ones, customer experience matters the MOST for any place. I would not return to any establishment no matter what they are selling - if the people running the show lack empathy and don't treat their audience right. And these guys, NAILED it. So much integrity, passion and excitement, that I was proud to take my non-Indian friends here and show them a glimpse into my culture - we had a gorgeous young lady named Jasmine serving our meals and not only were her recommendations spot on, but she also made sure we got everything we requested for. So understanding and lovely. In addition to that - the handsome manager Abhishant (besides sharing connections being from the same hometown as myself - haha coincidently) was so courteous and made sure we were happy with every course, checking in on us and politely even apologizing for interrupting mid-course to check on us. (If only all restaurants with snobbish staff could read this!) Before buying any product or service - I thoroughly read reviews and I must say - as excited as I was to try the food, the selling factor was how well the staff had been reviewed on Google. And this experience - surpassed all our expectations and confirmed all those reviews! You've made yourself long-term customers, The Yellow Chilli team and we will surely be referencing you everywhere for the only place to go in BC for authentic Indian experience. <3

Well itās owned by Sanjeev Kapoor n my mom loved the manās show. Iāve been meaning to visit this restaurant, but we couldnāt prioritize this place till yesterday. The booth where we sat ( a small family of three) was extremely claustrophobic and hard to get in and out of the booth. Next the waitress ā forgotā our order, and eventually she got it all ( but not correctly) We had ordered a mint chicken tikka that was almost melting in my mouth and just because it was so tasty, we overlooked the ā sorry I forgot your order disasterā Next, another waitress clearly saw that our water was almost empty n we were still eating yet she asks ā would you like some water?ā You just put a glass n not ask - perhaps itās regional thing I donāt know but we let that slide too. Next came the main course we had clearly asked for a vegetarian biryani, but we ended up getting chicken biryani ( we went ahead and ate ) this was not acceptable By now, we had ordered another dish. Next came the waitress who poured water n asked so softly that I couldnāt really hear anything despite trying hard twice- I didnāt want to embarrass her by asking her the third time, so I nodded ⦠we got another extra mulchās which I didnāt needā¦. Over all, the food was definitely on a different level. It was tasty, delicious, flavorful & everything that I always thought the chef promised on his shows. However, the way our orders were mixed up left me wondering - whatās going on? However, at the end of the day Iām still extremely happy because the chile that was served at this restaurant tasted exactly like I make at home all the time !! So that authenticity is what would make me want to come back despite the service! Itās worth driving up all the way from Washingtonā¦

I visited Yellow Chilli on April 15th with my family for lunch. I came here because of the "Sanjeev Kapoor" brand. We were seated quickly, Abhishant and Gagandeep did take good care of us all through the afternoon. Service was top notch. Had a meal and takeaway, am listing my feedback on the dishes we ordered. 1. Bhatti Ka Jheenga - 3/5, the shrimp was not deveined and the spices were not coated well. While seafood has an "aroma", this dish did not quite meet my expectations. 2. Tandoor Machi - 5/5, amazing dish. Extremely well made, the coating was great and the fish was really tender. I strongly recommend to try this dish. 3. Puran Singh Da Talwala Murgh - 3/5, the spices were different, however my daughter did not think it was tasty enough. 4. Bhuna Ghost - 5/5 - I was pleasantly surprised at the taste, however the meat tasted like lamb meat rather than goat meat. 5. Biryani ( Murgh Noormahal Biryani & Dum Ghost Biryani) - 4/5 Well made, had a nice flavor. 6. Shahi Tukda - (2.5/ 5) Coming from Hyderabad India, this was a disappointment. Some of the misses: 1.We were not served water. 2.When my daughter requested a straw, the server brought over a used straw. She had to request for another one. 3.Naan, the first one was buttered properly as the we flipped the next one was buttered less and the last one was not buttered at all. We are paying a premium at this restaurant, the above misses are not acceptable. I am not a food critic, I enjoy good food and am looking forward to make another visit with friends to this restaurant.

One of the finest dinning experience we had out of all Indian restaurants in the area, food is excellent and service was upkeep! topped with live music and great initiative by their manager Abhishant! This has been my 1st experience at Yellow Chilli when I went there with 6 adults and 3 kids (under 5 yrs) and was charged automatic gratuity which I did pay for but was not happy about considering kids are also counted for big party tables over 8 people ! But on a repeat dine-out with my family of 4 adults and 2 x 5yr old kids, I was surprised to see a gratuity charge of 18% automatically added in the bill and same manager says this is their management policy for party of 6 or more! Topped with the server who can't explain or recommend even a single food item from the menu...... Ordered Biryani and asked if it comes with Raita, she says NO so ordered additional Raita and later she brings 2 bowls of raita saying chef gave with biryani as well!! same server passing by multiple time looking at the empty glasses but I had to ask for water and she comes and fill in my glass and goes away where my family is still waiting for water in their empty glasses!!! I'm not sure if the management who fixes automatic 18% gratuity, even understand or train their staff for food service standards? It's unethical to overcharge bills by 18% by untrained staff for dumping food on the table! Food is great but Definitely an expensive place for family dine out!!!

I recently dined at this location of 'The Yellow Chilli by Sanjeev Kapoor,' and unfortunately, I must say that the experience didn't meet my expectations. While the ambiance and service were great , the most critical aspect, the food quality and taste, fell short. I had previously visited 'The Yellow Chilli' in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, and the difference in food preparation and quality was striking. During this visit, we decided to try their signature dish, 'Sham Savera.' Regrettably, it did not live up to its reputation. Upon expressing our disappointment to the server, she explained the preparation process, but the taste was unmistakably lacking. It seemed to have an excessive tomato base and was rather watery. It left me with the impression that it might have been prepared hastily or by less experienced hands. While I would love to visit 'The Yellow Chilli' at another location, I would think twice about returning to this particular one. The experience didn't justify the money spent, especially when compared to my previous positive encounter.
