We were not satisfied with the quality of food at Blue Olive. Unfortunately, in this city it’s already hard to find a restaurant with truly fresh ingredients, but here it was very clear that the food was not made with fresh products. The kebab meat tasted old and stale, with a very tough and dry texture that made it hard to eat. The French fries were cooked in old, reused oil, which was obvious from both their color and the unpleasant taste. The burger patty was also very tough and of poor quality. On top of that, it took more than 25 minutes for the burger to be served—while a burger is considered a fast-food item and should not take that long. That being said, the interior of the restaurant was very stylish, clean, and well-decorated, and it could have been a great place to enjoy a nice meal. Unfortunately, the poor quality of the food didn’t allow us to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere. I believe if the management paid more attention to using fresh ingredients and improving cooking quality, this place could easily become one of the better restaurants in the city.

Thankfully, we only ordered one lunch from here to try it out. The flavor consists of two extremes: bland nothingness and raw garlic, as in burns when you eat it raw garlic. I was really hoping my family would like this restaurant so I could have a break from making homemade shawarma, hummus and naan every week at home, but that won’t happen. No salt, no lemon, no olive oil, no flavor, and egads, that pita was worse than the garbage you’d buy at a supermarket. When I asked if I should try to save the meal and doctor it up, I was told not to bother because no one was going to eat it. Below is the picture of the good looking but bad tasting lunch that will sit in the fridge and then get thrown out.

It is not consistent in terms of service and food quality. I always stop by to have lunch at Blue Olive whenever I’m in Moncton. They used to have very delicious and fresh food. This time I took my co workers to try it out as we were on a business trip to the city and I was disappointed with the quality of the food. I had a beef kabab it was not cooked well in addition to to that my choices of salads were mixed with my co worker. The hummus dipping was not good at all as well as the pita bread was not fresh. I used to recommend this restaurant but now I would say try at your own risk!

I really wanted to enjoy my time at this restaurant, especially since it was my birthday and I had been looking forward to it. While the food was genuinely delicious, the customer service left a lot to be desired.

I had made a reservation a week in advance, but when I arrived, the server seemed confused and asked if my reservation wasn’t for later. After insisting that it was for the current time, he suddenly “remembered” the name under the reservation—but then told me I would only have the table for 1.5 hours because it was needed for another party. Since I’m not from Moncton and was waiting for friends, I reluctantly agreed. It was clear the table wasn’t even ready yet, and it felt like they had simply forgotten my reservation.

Once we sat down, we were rushed to order and eat. The server made a false claim to one of my friends—in French—that I had been informed about the time limit beforehand, when I booked (which I absolutely was not, otherwise, I would’ve booked an earlier time). He said this knowing I wouldn’t understand, and from that point on, he avoided eye contact with me and only addressed my friends in French.

The entire experience felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I had hoped for a nice evening with friends and good food, but instead I felt like a burden they were trying to rush out the door. It’s unfortunate, because the food truly is good—but due to the dishonesty and poor treatment, I won’t be returning or recommending this...

We generally like the fact that Moncton has more ethnic diversity through restaurants such as Blue Olive but this not excuse the poor service and the unacceptable wait times.

The staff are really inefficient. We sat down and had to wait 10 minutes for a menu. The waitress spoke so softly and her English was so poor that communication was a struggle. We waited 40 minutes for our meals and when they arrived the order was wrong.

When we finished we asked for our bill but we were told to pay at the cash. We had to line up with others making take-out orders and paying their bills so that this took another 15 minutes. We then made the mistake to order some take-out. We had to wait another 27 minutes for items already prepared but had to be placed in containers to go.

As I waited I noticed a small crowd at the food counter had been waiting for some time to pay for their groceries and that the person by the cash with me was getting increasingly annoyed that she had to wait so long for a take-out.

When I finally received by order to go, they no longer had enough food prepared so I had to take less than what I ordered. Also I asked for no oil on the hummus but I received oil, nonetheless. The items were put into a bag but the containers have no secure lids so everything leaked in the car, despite the fact that the bags remained upright.

This has been typical of my experiences at this poorly...

Utterly disappointing meal at Blue Olive on Friday. From the moment we sat down, we were hit with the smell of bleach coming from the table, it was so strong it hurt our nose which really set the tone for our experience. We ordered a large mezza platter to share, it definitely wasn’t anything special, it was a lazy assortment of appetizers. The stuffed grape leaves were an insult, they came straight from a can and were presented as a legitimate menu item. This is seriously unacceptable and dishonest to even put on the menu, it’s the equivalent being served canned oysters from a seafood restaurant and being charged top dollar. After the appetizers we each ordered our own dish, I ordered their tajine and it was horrible. Instead of proper tajine, I was served meatballs with a scoop of sauce and a overcooked egg in the middle. When we wanted to leave and pay the bill the server was nowhere to be found, once we were about to get up to look for her we see her come in from outside, assuming she was having a smoke. Needless to say we will not be going there again. Being served canned food as a menu item is a joke and the kitchen’s incompetence is an insult to all...
