I was looking for pizza in Huntsville and decided to give this place a try since it seemed promising. We asked to sit on the upstairs patio, which was nice at first. We ordered our food, but soon after, it started to rain heavily. Naturally, my friends and I didn’t want to get soaked while eating, so we asked a waitress if we could move downstairs. She said it was no problem, so one friend grabbed his plate (two of us were still waiting for our food) and headed to the dining room.
We thought we were about to be seated when the manager(Sep 1, 2024) approached us and said, "You have to go back upstairs to the other patios or get takeout boxes," essentially telling us to either go sit in the rain or just leave, as their second patio seating option was full. To make matters worse, as she said this, I saw another group of four walk into the dining room with their plates and sit in a booth. We would’ve been happy to sit at the bar even but weren’t even given the option. My friends and I were confused and frustrated by how she spoke to us, so I decided we’d just leave.
After all that, I hoped the food would at least be decent. Unfortunately, it wasn’t. You can’t serve food this mid and have a manager treat customers that mid. It just makes average food taste worse.
On a positive note, the waitresses were kind and accommodating, so none of this was their fault. They did try to help us find a seat after we moved.
Here’s what I ordered: Crispy Fried Shrimp: Disappointing and not even worth discussing—wish I hadn’t ordered it. Pretty gross. Garlic Naan: It came with a single piece of “naan” with marble cheese for $13.50. It tasted okay, but $13.50 for a tiny piece of bread with cheese? Hard pass. Margherita Pizza: Just an average, mediocre pizza. Frozen Piña Colada: Also not great.
All in all, save your money and eat somewhere else! 100 bucks wasted when I could’ve used that to buy a cool board game down the street instead.
If I get a refund for this evening i’ll remove my one star and...
Read moreThe Mill on Main is in a great spot in downtown Huntsville, and at first glance it feels like the kind of place you’d want to sit down at after exploring Muskoka. The atmosphere is welcoming and the patio has a nice casual vibe, especially if you’re just looking to grab a drink and people-watch. That said, when it came to the food, the overall experience left me a little underwhelmed.
I came in really wanting to try the lamb shank, which looked like one of the more exciting items on the menu, but unfortunately they didn’t have it available that day. That was disappointing, and I ended up going for pizza instead. The pizza itself was okay, but the dough really missed the mark—it didn’t have that light, flavorful, or well-textured quality you’d expect. Toppings were fine, but the crust is what carries a pizza, and this one felt more like an afterthought.
I also tried their Caesar, which was decent. It had the classic flavor you’d expect and was refreshing enough, but again, not something I’d rave about. Across the board, the food felt pretty average—nothing was terrible, but nothing really impressed either. For the price point, which is on the higher side, I think you’d expect a little more in terms of flavor and execution.
Service was fair and the staff were pleasant, but the overall experience just didn’t live up to the charm of the location. Huntsville and Muskoka have a lot of great spots, and while The Mill on Main is okay for a casual night out if you’re already nearby, it wouldn’t be my first recommendation if you’re looking for a truly memorable dining experience.
It’s a solid “middle of the road” option: not bad, but not great either. With some improvements to consistency in the kitchen and perhaps more attention to the details that elevate a dish from average to memorable, it could be much better. For now, I’d call it decent if you’re in the area, but not necessarily worth going out of...
Read moreThis place deserves four to five stars but unfortunately this review is based around my personal experience with having dietary restrictions. My partner had an amazing experience and one particular staff member did her best to make sure I did as well which is why I can't give a one star or not explain that otherwise they deserve higher. First of all I have a lactose intolerance and gluten intolerance. It was mentioned when we ordered as they do accommodate for vegan and gluten-free. I ordered a ceaser salad with steak after checking that the only dairy in the dressing is parmesan cheese which is safe for me and that it would be gluten free. When the salad came it was covered in croutons, which we asked if they were gluten free and told they were not. It was taken away and soon I had it brought back. At first it looked fine but after getting halfway through the salad I noticed all they had done was removed the croutons from the top and bring it back. There were small bits of cruton throughout the rest of the salad. I mentioned it to the server and she seemed appalled and offered to take it off the bill. I tried picking through the bits of lettuce but gave up and ended up passing the last bit of my salad to my partner. Still hungry I decided to order the carrot cake for dessert as it was listed as gluten free and vegan. Sure enough it was brought to the table covered in whipped cream and caramel, which also contains dairy. The second server got called over and was again appalled that my dietary needs were ignored and it was taken away. Thankfully a new one was brought out and it was delicious. At the end of the night though I definitely suffered the consequences of consuming enough gluten and was in discomfort the rest of the night. Please be extremely careful and vigilant if you have dietary requirements when...
