My friend and I went for tacos last week. The quality and execution of the tacos and “Mexican corn” was very bad but the manager was lovely and staff were kind and sweet. Here is my long review on the food quality and experience..

We ordered: 2 shrimp tacos, I stated they were for my friend. 1 fish taco 1 spicy chicken 1 beef, those 3 for me. And 2 orders of the “Mexican corn” which they said was their first day having on the new menu.

The 2 shrimp and 1 fish taco all come out on the same plate but the server puts them down and says “3 fish tacos” — I said “oh sorry we ordered 2 shrimp and 1 fish” and she said “oh... well go ahead and eat these then and I’ll be sure to have your correct order up soon anyhow.” — basically admitting to the mistake of having 3 fish tacos and saying we can have them anyways. So my friend and I shrug and bite in.

She returns back and says that it was actually the 2 shrimp and 1 fish.. meanwhile I’d already begun eating 1 of my friend’s 2 shrimp tacos. So we order her another shrimp taco. The 3 tacos she’d placed down, by the way, looked identical...despite the fish and shrimp tacos stating different ingredients. All 3 tacos (2 shrimp, 1 fish) came garnished with pickled jalapeños on top when they didn’t state pickled jalapeños as an ingredient for either tacos, on the menu. Then when my friend ordered another shrimp taco, it came with the correct ingredients, and no jalapeños, instead cilantro as a garnish.

My chicken and beef tacos were a mess. The only good taco was the fish. The chicken was cubed and dry, and the yogurt dressing was bland. The beef taco was horrendous. The menu states caramelized onions, chimichurri, and horseradish.. none of those things were on the taco. There were roughly chopped chunks of raw onion, and the beef was tough and dry.

The Mexican corn......................... don’t even know what to say really. It was cut into a quarter of a cob.. so, very uncomfortable and awkward to hold and eat, number one. And number two, it just wasn’t Mexican corn. It was absolutely smothered in chilli powder, and there was no cilantro or lime or mayonnaise.. key ingredients for a “Mexican corn.”

There is a lot of potential but the menu and kitchen needs a slap in the face. Manager was sweet and kind but doesn’t change food quality sadly. Photos attached for reference.

There is a photo of one of the shrimp tacos on the original plate of 3. And another photo with the cilantro garnish is the remake shrimp taco. Entirely different...

Post from a few years ago... What a refreshing place to visit on a hot day in Port Carling. Right on the water so convenient by boat. The food was fantastic! Flavour combinations of the tacos was superb and authentic. The local draft beer was a nice addition. A must when visiting Port Carling!

My update from summer 2022 My update after a few years....don't bother with this place. The food was lacking, quality was poor and service was also off. Servers are lacking now since covid. Most restaurants limit the number of people if they know it will affect the patrons. Tulo's is packing them in. Our food was delivered to our table where most of us (4 total) ate our meals separately. Not the server's fault but the cook yelling out the orders to the staff. The server didn't refill water jug on a very hot day when she had time to refill. She was busy but proper training of servicing a table would solve that in the future. The tacos have gone down in quality. Lacking flavour except for the shrimp taco. Food likes/dislikes is subjective...quality is not. My spicy chicken bowl was in a huge bowl with little ground chicken, rice and specks of a few other toppings. Who uses ground chicken?? It had heat but no flavour. All the bottles of hot sauces at our table were disgustingly crusted over and empty or a few drops left. I'm not a chef but I have had enough bowls to expect chicken breast or at least formed pieces of chicken. Ground beef is expected in a beef taco. Authenticity is gone. Am I being too picky? Maybe the price should reflect the ground chicken then...I can accept the price adjustments due to covid but this is not in that acceptable range. Enchilada was smaller than expected for a hefty price on cheese and no meat. This is not the same quality or quantity so if you are looking for waterfront dining, Turtle Jacks is a better option. I used to recommend Tulo's to all visitors but that has definitely changed now. I was horribly embarrassed to have taken my guests here. Good luck Tulo's. Hopefully, you will listen to...

We were there mid-afternoon for late lunch/early dinner. My friend was raving about the margaritas so we went.

Service was pretty good up until we received the bill which came to over $200 ($70 pp for margaritas, guacamole & nachos, and tacos). We pointed out that the taco for the pescatarian was served on the same plate as and touching a meat taco and should've been taken off the tab.

We had asked for more guacamole and the server brought what amounted to barely enough for one person let alone for the table. When we asked for a full top-up of guacamole the server said she'd have to charge, which we were fine with so we also asked for the additional nacho chips to go with it. The additional requests were treated as two separate side orders.

We got a bit of attitude (actually more than a bit) from the floor manager or team lead when we inquired about being charged for two sides and not an additional order of guacamole & nachos. She refused to adjust the bill for the difference. When refunding the money for the taco she was giving attitude. I wish we would have asked for her name and followed up afterwards about the entire experience.

As to food & drinks, margaritas were great and pork tacos were delish. I think the fish tacos were good (didn't have them forget to ask). However, the guacamole was the most disappointing version I've ever had dining out anywhere (just barely mashed avocado and very bland).

The whole experience leaves a less than stellar dining experience in our minds. I wouldn't jump to recommend this place to anyone. It's overpriced for what you get, but sometimes you go because there aren't many dining options in...

Go for the view, not the value or variety. This area is known for pricier fare however I expected more. If you charge $18 for chips and guac I would expect an appropriate chip to dip ratio. The ramekin was the size of a side of dip(like if you were to get a side of mayo or ranch elsewhere), the chips were great but again the value just wasn't equal. The tacos were small, 6" which is normal for taquerias, however charging $8-10 per taco and not having the option to get a multi deal was odd. They WERE tasty but again, the value was just not there. Margaritas without salt was also odd? Is that not normal? The patio, although appealing to boaters and visitors was lacking as they were plastic tables with plastic weathered chairs, the hot sauces were crusty and not appealing either. I have paid a lot for small plates and a good experience before, but the quality of the food and drink isn't at par with the atmosphere and wait staff. Also it's 2023, how are you not able to bill split? Just strange. I found it was out of date to not have an updated menu when in restaurant, nor having your menu posted online. Honestly I'd come back if in a pinch but wouldn't plan on it.

No AC, tiniest tacos i’ve ever seen in Muskoka or Toronto’s and expensive for the quality + taste. Even Campechano in Toronto (a Michelin guide restaurant) where cost of rent is the same, if not higher has bigger portions with better taste and quality for the same price or cheaper. I wish i took photos of the barbacoa because it was honestly pathetic. 1 1/2 tbsp of meat? Crazy. Ordered the battered fish taco as its pretty standard across restaurants but mine was overcooked for sure. We still ate everything since there wasn’t much there to begin with, but disappointing. The server quality checked us, but how could we say that the food was just mediocre? We can’t ask them to change everything about the food, especially the size? The flavour was mid, can’t say much about that as It isn’t the server’s fault. Pictured is the Ahi tuna tostada (30$! for mostly cabbage). Salad was good. Fish tacos are shown, once again, not much fish, and not tender. Wish we’d looked at the reviews before we came, seems we are not the odd ones out in thinking that the food quality needs improvement at the cost. Drinks were decent, not horrible but definitely not great.
