A few months ago if you asked me what I thought of Tommy’s , it would have been 5 stars no hesitation. Now with recent experiences we might be changing our normal weekend spot. From odd occurrences of them giving me hot drinks in glasses meant for cold drinks (so the drink burns your hand , they only give you napkins for a holder)
However today was different. Ordered chicken and waffles 🧇 since Tommy’s food for sweet and savoury is usually really good. Got the food and it looks pretty like in the photo below! However that beauty was turned to gross horror from the actual amount of sweet n sour sauce there was. It was dripping everywhere and soaked into the waffles. IT WASNT MENTIONED IN THE MENU. , THEY LITERALLY SOAKED THE PLATE IN THE GARNISH PRETTY MUCH. All you could taste was sweet n sour waffles. So there went my gravy dipping or syrup.
We ended up getting horrible service. Our waitress was only seen to take the order and then drop off the food. She didn’t check in with us or anything. After my partner was nearly done her food I was finally able to get a different waitress and tell her the problem. She recommended just to move the plates at first (until I showed her it’s literally soaked) to which then was offered for them to remake it. Which I would have said yes to if I was asked around the time it happened and not over 25 minutes later since the people I was with were already done. In the end they only gave a 30% discount instead of company the item which is a shame. It’s like if you ordered something and then the chef gets creative and ruins it to the point where it’s not good and they don’t really care. Am definitely looking at starting to...
Read moreThe place is not what it used to be - think Tommy’s circa 2010. I’ve visited Tommy’s on and off over the years hoping to experience it as it was when I was a Lynn Valley residing regular. And I know times change and ownership has changed a couple of times but the charm of the divey, serve yourself coffee and 80s nostalgia movie playing in the corner that made Tommy’s a great place to go, are no longer.
Some menu items have remained the same and the food is good overall. I think I could’ve enjoyed the food more if I hadn’t been distracted by other details: having to ask for water (given limited table space, maybe they refrain from bringing this right after patrons are seated), poached eggs turning up to the table swimming in a pool of their cooking liquid, even if it is served in its own ramekin. The music didn’t fit the space at all - slow jazzy covers of todays top 20, the condiments are hard to get out and put back into their baskets without knocking other items over on the tiny tables even before the huge plates have arrived to take up most of the room on the table.
With a little more care for the smaller details, the Tommy’s of 2024 could be much...
Read moreThe staff are pleasant and courteous. Tommy's prices are WAY too high for the quality and size of the meal. I ordered a menu item that had poached eggs on top of greens on top of toast and an order of home fries, but when it arrived it didn't match its description in the menu, but I can't remember why because I was so SHOCKED at what they served me in this "restaurant." A 5-year-old kid could have made a better breakfast. The greens were wilted from the heat and dampness of the poached eggs, the toast was dry and tasteless, and the home fries were terrible - dry, overcooked. The two poached eggs were perfect, but the rest of it was a 4-letter word. It was THE worst restaurant breakfast I have been served ever - EVER. Take a look at their website - photos of chefs in white uniforms. Now, take a look at their one "cook" in Tommy's kitchen. Hahaha! Tommy's is a disgraceful, overrated sham that serves soup kitchen meals at gourmet, high-end prices. You could probably get a better breakfast at a homeless shelter. If don't have much experience eating out, you might not realize how bad...
