Restaurant Boustan — Restaurant in Dollard-des-Ormeaux

Disclaimer: I generally prefer not to mention names or nationalities in reviews, but in this case, I am compelled to do so to clarify the specific circumstances of my review and to ensure that only the person responsible for the negative interaction is identified, without confusion with other servers at the same location.

My experiences at Boustan on Des Sources have generally been positive until today. While the food has always been enjoyable, my recent encounter with a server named Mohammed from Bangladesh (as stated by the server) left much to be desired. When requesting a simple accommodation to have dressing on the side, I was met with resistance and told it couldn’t be done, despite it being accommodated by other servers on previous visits.

The server in question made the situation uncomfortable by suggesting that the previous servers and I shared the same nationality. This introduced an unnecessary racial undertone to the conversation, which was disappointing, particularly considering the excellent service provided by other servers in the past.

Such behavior and dialogue are unacceptable in a multicultural nation like Canada, which prides itself on fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for all individuals, regardless of their backgrounds.

While I appreciate the eventual resolution, I hope that management addresses these issues to ensure all patrons feel valued and equally respected.

Given this experience, I am hesitant to revisit this specific location. Additionally, I’ve noticed that other reviews often receive a standard response directing them to contact support via email. While I anticipate a similar response, I hope my feedback is considered thoughtfully and addresses the specific concerns raised here.

Moving forward, I recommend promoting diversity within the restaurant team and hiring individuals who provide excellent service and treat all patrons...

Used to be ok years ago, but has been going downhill. Today was the last straw that has pushed me to write my first ever restaurant rating/review.

The issues I have had in the past include being given no hummus or garlic sauce with the mixed plates I ordered for pickup, being given almost no sauce (like seemingly just a teaspoon of each!), and them being ridiculously skimpy on the meat.

Today was the worst. I ordered two creation pitas for pickup, and in the instructions I wrote to add garlic sauce.

They added the garlic sauce, no problem, but for some reason also added mushrooms and spicy sauce (harissa), which I did not ask for and did not want, put so little potato inside that I couldn't even tell there was any until I found like 2-3 small pieces at the end, and both pitas contained pieces of what appears to be bone in the chicken.

The only way I can explain the high rating is that they work better when you're actually supervising them, and you can catch them and direct them as needed. When you order for pickup (and perhaps delivery?), they just don't care, they'll be skimpy, careless, and/or incompetent.

My advice is to avoid this location, and if you do go, go in person and supervise them, and if you order pickup, open what you ordered and check it out. I'm sticking to the Saint-Jean location...

WARNING. Ordered two trio pitas from Boustan through Uber Eats on 2024-02-02 at 11 PM, taking advantage of the 2 for 1 promotion. Unfortunately, I only received one trio, which was not only missing the potato but was also burnt, as evident in the attached picture. When I called the restaurant to rectify the situation, they insisted that I had ordered only one trio. Additionally, communicating over the phone was challenging as they claimed the music in the store was too loud, even asking if I wanted them to stop the music. Their response was unprofessional and unhelpful. Eventually, I had to seek a refund from Uber as the employee refused to send a corrected order.
