This place makes EXTREMELY delicious vegetarian Samosas. They've got a little kick, they're packed full of flavor, with a gorgeous golden yellow tone. The batter is just perfectly CRISP, and you bite in and get beautiful whole chunks of savory spices blending in there.
I would have to say because of this that these are the best samosas that I've had in a LONG while.
I just wish that the sauce that comes with it was a little bit more than is given.
Equally the Paneer Pakoda is superbly delicious. It's quite fat compared to other places I have ordered from, with big chunks of cheese, but they include the beautiful center flavoring of spices between their cheese, and the batter was not overdone nor dried out.
They make an equally and beautifully delicious Keshmiri Puloo- which has almonds and fruit blended in. It's got a beautiful flavour and color.
The Shai Paneer has a different flavour than most other competitors in this city go for- and the only thing I'd say about it, is I wish that the cheese pieces were bigger, and more plentiful. I did ask for extra, and got a half-smeared off message that said something about charging extra for it... but I am not sure it's anywhere on the menu yet to include that.
But for a dish that hinges on including paneer,/cheese as the main ingredient I'd like to see a more robust and plentiful inclusion of the same in this dish.
Outside of that the flavour is good and unique, although I'd say this one lends more to having a stronger tomato base, but the flavour/spices are plentiful.
Now I've tried the regular Daal Makani from here, and I would say I was disappointed in this dish. The deeper blended, creamy, but rich flavor was just missing. But to be fair, I've only had one restaurant come up close to that bar, so most restaurants just fall short. However, being my favorite dish, I would like to see if Apna Panjab reworks this dish so that it can be rich, but flavorful again.
So after trying the original daal makhani that I love so much, but being disappointed- this time I wanted to try the Dal Panchratni and see if maybe that would be any better.
I will say now that I was NOT disappointed with this version (Daal Panchratni). It's a more 'chunky' blend of Dal with quite a unique flavour. I found lots of onion slices inside this mix (which I thoroughly enjoyed), and found the flavour to be really great.
The only downside is that you can't pick your level of heat/spice- which is something that I really would love to bring this dish right up to the top.
It would be nice if Apna Panjab included a heat system that allowed customers to add heat/spice to their dishes, as I'd consider these all quite mild.
But for anyone looking to try some different but very tasty and well rounded Indian food in Edmonton, I'd say give this place a go.
ONLY other thing I also am surprised is that they don't have any raita whatsoever on their menu. Equally surprised they don't offer any vegetable raita.
But then again the dishes are mild so there's no real...
Read moreFirst of all I am reviewing buffet only as i tried there samsosa and they were ausum but trying the buffet I can say my experience is disastrous if somebody is going there for there buffet which is kinda lowest in edmonton please consider this point by point The food at this restaurant left much to be desired. It was bland and lacking in flavour. I was disappointed by the poor food quality specially chicken was stale i know how the stale chicken smell. The dishes were not cooked properly and tasted stale. 3.I couldn't ignore the fact that the food here was of low quality. It was a letdown. I can describe my experience as chicken curry -stale u can check it out
mutton curry-no mutton and its more tangy
fish pakoda-really good taste but seem they put for long time.
veg pakoda -hardly any in the dishpan.
Dal makhni -i didn't try so idk about it.
chic-pea/chole- very low quality i mean all indigents but not properly
I ask for extra roti they say only 2 comes with it I think in buffet is all about u can eat but its ok because rice quality was not that good and i loss my appetite in restaurant.
I am not at all happy i mean if you serve 3 good items but it taste good i m ok to pay but you serving 6 items and all are bad is really let you down when as a customer you going for good...
Read moreTheir samosas are the best I've had in ages. The veg samosa and the chicken. The veg is much cheaper so if you are looking to buy bulk samosa about 20pieces it will be less than $20. Great for taking to a party or for catering an event as a quick snack for cocktail parties. They also have lots of Indian sweet which again are amazing and delicious.
They do have a dine in area to eat their buffet but it's very small and needs an upgrade for sure decor wise, tables and chairs. I am just saying this from a person who visits alot of restaurants about the ambiance.
I would definitely take out food. Uber eats and all the other companies like it charge restaurants like Apna Punjab too much just to use their service and I don't think it is fair to their restaurants to give up so much money just to use their services. If you want to support them, drive there and order or call and pick up. You will not be disappointed. They have a huge menu, more than I have seen at other ethnic restaurants. Enjoy! Sorry I didn't take photos this time but I will post for next time...
