We just ate @ Baekjeong korean bbq this was my honest review as a 1st timer to eat in a korean restaurant. After a long week of staying in edmonton for our conference event finally before we get back to Red Deer our family and family friends decided to eat @ korean restaurant and we choose to eat at baekjeong when my family get there first the ladies in the front had receive us and take us to our table I told them I have more friends that is coming if they can sit to the table beside us and they ask how many people we have in total and I said I think were 12 including the kids and they move us at the very far side close to their service area
upon serving our food they accidentally switch our orders and this RUDE server realize it was wrong when were already grilling the meat we dont know it was switch because its our 1st time to eat in korean food and we are not aware of the amount of meat and how big or small it was instead of them saying SORRY to us it felt like its our FAULT why the food was switch by how this RUDE LADY SERVER assist us and what caught my attention was how RACIST she is. She is very unpleasant whenever she will come to serve us with GRAMPY FACE and I CAN SEE HOW RACIST she was because as i follow looking at her service to other table she look fine but when it comes to us she looks like she doesnt want to serve us. When my mom ring the little bell at the edge of the table to ask help I saw her (RACIST, RUDE SERVER) look to that thing where u can see the number of table asking for help I know it was our table number because theres no more rings after my mom press the button and this RACIST SERVER as soon us she saw the our table number appear she snob it.
Until finally pass our table to other lady whom I feel well please and Im thankful that the SECOND LADY was very nice and very patient to us whenever we ask help shes always at her service with great smile.
When we are finally getting our bill this (FIRST LADY) GRAMPY, RACIST and FULL of ATTITUDE approach us, gave us our bill but the bill came with both tables combine bill we ask if she can split it as we are seperate and my friend notice the 18% gratittude fee although I notice that on the little board at the front when I came in but not fully read it as we were directed right away to the table so I didnt mind it but then I realized it after thats the reason why the ladies at front ask us how many people we are but not knowing the purpose of it so, we insist to this RUDE lady if she can take it off our bill since were trying to explain to her our side she call her manager name Charly or Charles and the manager is very pleasant and camly explain to us everything and he take off the 18% grattitide fee because he felt that we have misunderstanding and we appreciate his kindness without hesitant to understand the situation I am very well satisfied about his attitude toward this issues because of the manager and the kind lady who assist us aside this rude lady both me and my friends leave our tip as appreciation and I commend specially the 2nd lady who replace this rude lady.
At first because of this RUDE lady who serve us were I thought KOREANS ARE ALL RACIST and at that time I decided to never go back to this restaurant but after the warm service of the 2nd lady who assist us I change my mind .I hope I can remember her name so I can write her name here because my 5 STARS belongs to her may God Bless her. And I pray that the management will recognized her as the best employee of the...
Read moreThe food was undeniably great, no doubt about that. However, I’m giving a 3-star rating not because of the quality of the food, but due to the disappointing service we experienced and the automatic 15% mandatory gratuity.
We don’t mind spending on good food and service cause we actually enjoy discovering new places and recommending them to friends and family so they can experience what we have. But in this case, the service we received didn’t reflect the gratuity that was added to our bill, which felt unfair.
We made a reservation for a long table to accommodate 8 people. Although we split our group into two separate bills (2 and 6), we placed our orders with the same server. From the beginning, she seemed rushed—understandably so, as she may have been attending to other tables—but that affected the quality of our service.
Unfortunately, our orders were mixed up and some items were missing. We weren’t given napkins initially, had to ask for water multiple times while already eating, and even had to get a high chair ourselves from near the kitchen area because no one brought it to us despite the request. While we tried to be understanding of how busy the staff were, these issues added up.
At the end of our meal, we were charged a 15% mandatory gratuity. While we understand the intent behind it, it’s disappointing to be obligated to pay for a level of service that we didn’t feel was delivered. For us, gratuity should reflect the service provided—and in this case, it didn’t.
The only aspect that truly impressed us was the food. Huge compliments to the kitchen staff—you did an excellent job, and the dishes exceeded our expectations.
We’ll likely return because of the food, but we sincerely hope the service improves to match the quality—and to truly justify the...
Read moreI would consider Baekjeong to be a very authentic KBBQ spot, at least by Edmonton standards. The meats are very highly quality and all the banchan (Korean side dishes) were excellent and fresh! If you have a palette that enjoys fermented and umami flavours, this will be your element.
The overall aesthetic of the restaurant could be a bit nicer and the service wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t out of this world.
I ordered the Baekjeong Combo for 2, and although some reviewers say this place isn’t very filling.. I’d say that if you actually eat everything that comes with the combo, it’s plenty of food. All the meats were delicious and my choice of kimchi-jjigae (soup) was great! I wasn’t such a fan the steamed egg though, I think I’d opt for the corn cheese instead. But I must stay that their kimchi goes crazy, probably the best I’ve had in the city!
I will defiantly be revisiting, however, next time I think I’ll hand select my dishes instead of going with a pre-picked combo. Although you save some money going with a combo, I didn’t love everything it comes with, so I felt like I didn’t get my money’s worth.
Heads up, Baekjeong is a bit on the pricer side, especially if you are a big meat eater. However, I’d argue you get what you pay for! Considering there is unlimited banchan and the quality of meat served, I believe the price is justified.
Overall, this place is authentic and tasty! If you are in the mood for KBBQ I’d totally recommend, but if you are a rookie to the KBBQ scene... I’d maybe suggest you visit with someone who is Korean or someone who is well...
