Fuss Cupcakes — Restaurant in Edmonton

As I didn't get a receipt at time of purchase as I didn't expect to have any issues with the product, and their website states an original receipt is needed for refund, I'm out of pocket for this "learning experience", but I want to save anyone else the cost and embarrassment that I experienced serving family the substandard, stale, fishy tasting products the South Edmonton's Terwillegar Fuss Cupcake location is pushing out the door. Cupcakes and cakes are meant to be shared with friends and loved ones celebrating special occasions, and you absolutely wouldn't want to serve anyone you loved anything like I was convinced to purchase from their store clerk on Mother's Day 2021. Save yourself the money and disappointment and either choose a different Fuss Cupcakes location, or another business all together if you plan to serve anyone else their products. I went into the Terwillegar location on Mother's Day 2021 one hour before closing intending to purchase 12 cupcakes for my Mom to eat after our Mother's Day dinner, but was convinced by the store clerk to instead buy a ready-made 7" cake in the showcase...so I walked out with the cake and 6 cupcakes totalling $46.15 (full price). Within 2 hours of purchase, we bit into the cake to discover that not only was it at least a week old (or longer - it was incredibly dry, stale and the icing was so incredibly tough - even for fondant it was hard and dried out, no wonder she was trying hard to push it out the door and get full price for it)...the icing tasted very fish-flavoured - which is not what a person expects when eating cake. I also recall, after purchasing cupcakes at the Terwillegar location in April 2021 for a birthday, at least one had that weird fishy-flavour to it which I assumed might have just been an issue with one of the cupcake's icing...but now with this separate incident having a whole cake tasting fishy as well (that likely sat around their store for many, many, many days absorbing odours and tastes), I suspect the odours from the neighbouring Asian restaurant Fuss Cupcakes shares a wall with may be tainting their baked products (shared ventilation between businesses or the products are stored in a fridge/cooler/area where staff store their lunches that might be tainting the flavour of the baked goods/icing...just a guess though - what other excuse could there be for fish-flavoured icing on at least 2 separate occasions).

Regardless, the food quality isn't something I can trust anymore so I won't be shopping at this location again which is disappointing because I've been a Fuss Cupcakes fan for over 8 years but this experience has left a bad taste in my...

Pre-ordered gluten free and a dozen regular cupcakes for a birthday party. I haven't purchased their cupcakes in years and we were all very happy to see that the recipes, and level of quality of their cupcakes is still like it was when Fuss was in their early days with just the West end location. The gluten free cupcakes - we chose chocolate with mocha icing, were amazing, tasty and moist. Ordering over the phone was a breeze, our order was ready to go at the time we requested it. Service was friendly. I'm not much for sweets, but if I crave a cupcake, they are always Fuss cupcakes. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is that my favorite flavor is only available on a specific week. They rotate their flavors, so if there is a specialty flavor that you love, you have to time it right. Their regular flavors are fantastic. Bliss, Red Velvet and Cloud 9 are our favorites. I also love their carrot cake cupcake. Not sure if it is a regular item or a rotation one. They have also added flavors that were not on their original menu. It's really nice to see that even with the changes in ownership, the product quality remains consistent. Excellent job, Fuss...

The customer service is good and the cake taste good however don’t expect much for custom cake designs. They don’t actually know how to draw or pipe something that will look professional and still they tried to sell it to me saying that this is what I wanted and asked for but it clearly looked like a child drew it and it was very disappointing to see such a beautiful cake ruined by the character drawing that they said confidently that they could do.Not only did she say this is what I asked for, but she told me due to the little stars and extra details to the character it was harder for them to create but they never said this to me when ordering and I asked her twice on the phone she can do it? She can recreate this drawing and make it look like that? She said there wouldn’t be the cookie and I said that’s fine just the piping is good but obviously there was a huge miscommunication.
