Please read and see if I’m right to give them a 2 star review. I had heard so many good things about this place from my sister who went there regularly. When I heard they had a seasonal Bun Rieu, I was super excited. Being that it was seasonal I called to confirm that it would still be there next week when I intended to visit them. So 2 days later I packed 2 kids with me and made a visit. Checked that the item was still in the menu board (I even took a picture). Made my order and the waitress even repeated it back to me. Ordered a bunch of appetizers and some sandwiches as my kids wanted them. The pork spring roll was heavenly. I could have just had that and went home. The shrimp cakes were okay, not my favourite but I could tell they were done properly. The pork and shrimp salad rolls were not good. The sandwiches were hit and miss. One of them was the beef one and my son loved it. The other one was their specialty and we asked for no carrots. They sent it with no vegetables and loaded it up with this over powering sauce that made it inedible. We couldn’t even finish it, that’s how bad it was. So I’m sitting there patiently waiting for my soup (Bun Rieu), the entire reason for the trip. Finally I could see that everyone who came after us had their meals and there was something wrong. So I asked the waitress where my soup was? “What, you ordered that? We have been out and don’t have any” I couldn’t believe it. We were there at 11:30, one of the first and I also ordered it. I was really pissed, but I still gave her a tip because she was very polite and left but I’m definitely not going back. There’s definitely a communication problem here as I swear I ordered it and even asked my kids if I was losing my mind. The kids said “nope, you definitely ordered it, she even repeated your order back to you”. The sandwich was also an issue as you ask for no carrots means “no carrots”., it doesn’t mean “no veggies and soak the sandwich in sauce.” So, in summary, for the trip, 3 people came, one person got an inedible sandwich, one person got no soup, and one person enjoyed his sandwich. The pork spring rolls were awesome. The salad rolls were bad. The shrimp cakes were good but not to everyone’s taste.

this was such a lovely dinner experience!! It definitely wasn’t a typical Vietnamese restaurant with only Pho and Vermicelli bowls. The two things that caught my interest were the mini crepes with shrimp, and the green papaya salad. We also ordered the grilled beef banh mi, Saigon rolls, and green onion cake. The flavours were so fresh and interesting in the green papaya salad! The crepes were different than a French crepe, it was hot straight from the kitchen. All the toppings on the crepes added flavour and weren’t just for decoration. I didn’t try the sandwhich but my boyfriend really liked it! It’s a pretty big sandwich and will keep you full. The variety and choices of menu items felt like there was something for everyone. We ordered the deep fried icecream for dessert but accidentally received the banana spring roll. The owner immediately apologized and gave us a refund for the dessert. The banana spring roll was crispy on the outside and not too sweet. It wasn’t my favourite thing ever but regardless I was curious to try it anyway. The restaurant owner and servers were very kind and brought out our food fairly quickly. The owner was so sweet! He was excited about having us at his new restaurant and asked us for feedback. I felt so welcomed and honestly had a really memorable dinner. I will definitely be bringing many friends here!

Great place that offers more than the usual pho and vermicelli bowls. Wide range of items that you might not find elsewhere in Edmonton such as Vietnamese crepes, spring rolls wrapped in rice paper and northern style pho. The space here is small and intimate and the staff very friendly. It did take about 40 mins for us to get seated so plan ahead if coming here during lunch hours. I did feel a bit cramped though ngl. Our food was tasty and a new experience as it was our first time trying the crepe and Northern style pho. First thoughts were that both seemed a bit oily but the flavours were great. The pho was surprisingly different from what I was used to as it was less sweet, had much more green onions, no bean sprouts or basil and had more of an umami punch. Crepe was nice and crispy and a bit messy but it was nicely layered in terms of flavour profiles and textures and of course I forgot to take a photo of it! Spring rolls wrapped in rice paper is on whole new level and should be normalized. The crisp and chew of these springs rolls are superior to the standard wonton wrapper style. I'd recommend giving Mai Mai a try

1st time trying Mai Mai by delivery. It’s like I died and went to take away HEAVEN!! Years ago I discovered authentic Bahn mi downtown and fell in LOVE 💕. Trying to revisit a golden food memory never works. 20 years + later I saw a picture of one. ASAP I searched, found and ordered my beloved Grilled Beef Bahn mi and the classic light golden spring rolls found everywhere. 1stly the Bahn mi was exactly what I had hoped for and am now a customer for life! Then it was spring roll time. It was like NOTHING I’ve ever seen before. They were rolled in a very different wrapper that was almost like a bubbly crepe that was deep fried. Pretty sure I’ve only had pork. This filling was both pork and shrimp. They were both minced beautifully with vermicelli, and who knows what else. The dipping sauce was not the chili, fish sauce and rice wine vinegar?? It was instead the light sweet version I’ve wanted most but never find. MIND BLOWN!!!! LASTLY, the dessert was a kind of creamed almond paste?? stuffed in a chocolate croissant. It was soooo flaky kinda like an almond bak lava but huge and not at all sickeningly sweet. 24 hours after being kept in the wax paper bag it was exactly the same!!! Its on a PROMO now for $7. I say buy at least 2 or more if you’re not alone. You will need to share 1 or more with others like a DECOY. Share 1 and act like you’re sacrificing yourself for others. They won’t know you actually have 1 hiding in the dishwasher, house plant, mailbox or whatever. It’s a suggestion that you’ll never regret. Lastly MY BAD 🙈!! I should’ve taken pictures but I couldn’t wait. Just TRUST and ORDER!!...

I was so excited to hear that a Viet street food restaurant had opened up on the Southside that against my better judgement, I hauled my family out and drove 45 mins across the city just to try Mai Mai. Disappointed is an understatement. We got there just before 2 pm and it wasn't busy at all ( only 2 other tables). We quickly placed our order and patiently waited for our food. After 20 mins of waiting my kids started getting antsy but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt since it just opened. By this time 2-3 other parties came in and ordered. About 40 mins after ordering, I noticed that the table next to us was getting all their food (3-4 dishes)even though they came in way later than us. At this point the only thing we got was the egg coffee we ordered. I went to speak to the server about where our food was and while she was apologetic, had no explanation other than she asked the kitchen to make our order first. Then a lady from the kitchen came out (who was also the one bringing out food to other tables) said she thought we already got our food. I found it odd she would say that considering our table was clear of dishes and she never once brought anything over to us. Neither one was taking responsibility for why our order somehow got forgotten. After an hour of waiting, we finally got fed up and asked for a refund. The server seemed embarrassed but the lady from the kitchen didn't seem too apologetic. I wish I could comment on how the food was but unfortunately, I can't considering we never got any part of our food order. Save your time and money and go somewhere if you are...
