I dine and order take-outs regularly from this restaurant ever since it opened. There were a few disappointments before, and I have always let them slip. There was a delivery that took 1and ½ hour when promised 45 max. Rice noodles were sour, and desserts for six serve only three...etc. Tonight, the experience draws the line. I ordered a $148 Dinner for Six, using a weekly Chinese Newspapers clipping because the selection isn’t available online. My grandson loves the soup, and my children likes the Peking Duck dish. Upon arrival, I wanted to use a $25 gift coupon, but was asked whether the coupon was bought with cash or credit card. “It was a gift.”, I replied. I was told then that the order must be paid with a credit card because the coupon was purchased with a credit card. For years, we have paid in cash because the restaurant waives the 5% gst. I was confused, and my husband offered to pay the gst. on the $25 but was told by the same young man that we must pay for the entire bill using a credit card. He took off without saying anything. 2 waitresses came and tried to resolve the issue. We told them what the young man said, and one of them said, “It is fine.” The 2 ladies obviously don’t know how to do simple math or use a calculator. She told us the gst on the $25 is $1.75. My husband took out a toonie and said, “Keep the change.” We were already there for over 10 min. We got home, I noticed that the items are all different from the Newspaper clipping, and there is no dessert. I called the restaurant thinking that they gave us the wrong order, but I did check the telephone # outside the bags. The answer was, “No, we gave you the right order. … Yes, we may have forgotten the dessert. Are you aware that we have changed our menu tonight?” I said, “Tonight?” She continued, “This week Newspaper has the up-to-date information.” I reminded her that Chinese Newspapers are only available on Thurs if not Fri morning of each week. If that was the case, the person who took the order MUST INFORM the customers. And yes, we pick up this week Chinese Newspaper on our way out. She then recalled the young man horrible service and apologized for the mistakes. I got her name and told her once I finished what I did not ordered; I will head down the restaurant and get a 50% refund because this is ridiculous. She agrees. While I was eating, the same lady called and said, the young man who took the order did tell me about the change of menu. I said, “That is a LIE. But, if they choose to believe their employee, I am not going to argue.” She reiterated the order is correctly charged. I confirmed, “No refund? ... fine. I told her that it isn’t her fault, but this is a very very poor business practice.” She called me again 15-10 min later, interrupting my dinner to offer the delivery of the dessert. I said, "the roads are terrible, and I certainly don’t want anyone to slip and fall just to deliver a...
Read moreUpdate: after reading the reply from the owner, I feel very disappointed and digusted by their dishonesty. 1) your server never once apologized to us. We had 10 ppl in our table and everyone can be a witness. 2) we had never said we wanted to order more rice to pack for lunch. You are blantantly lying. We needed more rice since everyone was still hungry due to your small portions and the last dish finally came after we finished all the other dishes. 3) When did we did more rice, your server began to question us whether we want a portion of rice for 2 or 4. We decided on 2 since we had a little bit of rice left(no dishes to go with), but your server seemed to have charged us for a portion of 4 so now you've cheated us of our money. You just admitted that in your reply so I thank you for clearing that 10 dollars charge up. 4) We will NEVER come back due to your disrespectful reply. Thank you and have a good day.
If you want to eat in with a big group, make sure to call in for reservation. We have a group of 10... It was very tight... The other tables were closed to you.... Very uncomfortable. Ordered a set dinner of 10..food was good but small portion.... they forgot one dish and we had to flag one of the servers down to check where is the dish. She keep saying it's coming.. however we finished all the other dishes and still didn't come yet... it's literally gai lan stir fry with beef ... Seriously? Finally the server bring the dish in. no apology or nothing. We asked for more rice and the server didn't seem want to give us refill... And she came back with only one bowl of rice 😂 not with the typical rice warmer container... My uncle was upset but whatever. At the end of the dinner we checked the bill... She charged us 10 dollars for the refill rice... Will not return for sure. Server was not nice and charging 10 dollars for an extra bowl of...
Read moreOver the last month we have spent more than $400.00 on take out from Good Buddy on Granville. Each time out of 3, the quality of the food was declining and each time was worse than the previous occasion, but we could at least eat a portion of some part of the order. We just kept thinking the regular cook was on holidays but would return soon. (Very, very stupid on our part). The final time we ordered approx. a week ago, the food was absolutely HORRIBLE. It is extremely difficult to believe that anyone working in the oriental food industry would have bothered packaging this order to leave their establishment, if they had any pride in meal preparation or were at all concerned for their reputation. The entire order looked terrible, smelled like rancid grease and was not edible, even though we were extremely hungry. If I could have done something about this meal myself, I certainly would have marched back to the restaurant and in front of all patrons present told the employees exactly what I thought of the meal that was prepared for us, while I showed the contents of the containers to everyone. My tone of voice and expletives used would not have conveyed satisfaction. I just could not ask our caregiver to carry my rage or my disgust back to the proprietors of Good Buddy on Granville.
Without question you would be much happier and more satisfied choosing a different Oriental restaurant in the area, both with the quality of the food as well as the overall cost of your dinner.
