I have never been a big Ikea person, in fact when they first opened in South Edmonton my sister took me and upon seeing 8+? return counters I was like man how garbage is their stuff that they got that many returns at once? So I never went back. However, a year ago I was working from home and needed to get a new desk.  I was unable to find a furniture store that offered a large desk that could easily fit 3 monitors and 2 keyboards+mice. I ended up at Ikea and I they had a very large desk which also was height adjustable, it was like $800 which I have to say was a little much, however given the time constraints and that it was there in stock, I went with it. The desk itself is nice looking, not the material quality you would expect when you say $800 desk, it’s a nice black and it is motorized height adjustable, so that’s a pretty good plus. One of my fears with a new desk is getting something that’s not at the right height for keyboard and mouse and being uncomfortable. So, a height adjustable desk removes that fear. After buying this desk I found that the weight limit it has is very low compared to other adjustable desks of the same price range or even cheaper, so I have to say that is disappointing and a serious knock against Ikea. Also, the desk after I assembled it, I saw it has a tiny little chip and since it’s a black surface its very visible. However, having the entire thing assembled and in place, I’m not going to pack it up and return it, it’s just something I must live with. Though again disappointing quality wise. Recently I was at Ikea to pick up one of their PC tower stands which I had wanted when I bought the desk from there but it wasn’t in stock. I went into Ikea a week ago and they had it in so I bought one. On my way out I stopped into the Ikea restaurant and decided to have dinner there. This was my first time having a meal there and I went with their meatball meal with a side of mac and cheese and a juice to drink. Total price for this was only $13.09, which was a fair deal, value wise I would say my only issue is the side of Mac and Cheese even though it was only $2 was a little disappointing, I would prefer they jump to $2.50 and add in more. Though again maybe that’s just my view because I lived in America for a year and the obesity rubbed off on me. The meatballs were very nice, tasty and 8 pieces, the scoop of mashed potatoes also good and the side of peas were peas, so a nice enjoyable meal. They gave some of their linden berry jam? on the side and I’ve never had that before and it was really good with the meatballs. As for the Mac and Cheese? It was okay, I think id rather get their 4 additional meat balls for 2.50 and skip the carbs. I like Ikea’s vanilla scented candles so I will go there just to walk through the store and buy them, I can see myself stopping in for a meal also in the future as the food was good.

(Will leave a review for their breakfast menu soon.) For lunch, I had poutine, fish and chips, a plate of 12 Swedish meatballs, a slice of apple pie, and glass for a drink. Skip the poutine, since the curds are too large; skip the drink since they removed the lingonberry drink that they used to dispense at the soft drink counter. Fish and chips are good, as are the Swedish meatballs. The apple pie is delectable! (They even have raisins in the pie!) Overall, a fairly good lunch … for a fairly steep cost. $37 So, spend wisely. As for service: It was around 1 pm and only two employees working behind the food counter, plus one at the checkout till. Needs to be more staffed. The atmosphere is fine, except for the music that they play randomly cutting in and out. And that’s true of all over the store. Overall, coming here is more a novelty now instead of it being a go-to place.

What can I say, it's like every other Ikea 🤷🏻‍♀️. It has limited choice of food and charges exorbitant prices for any extras might want to add on like four more meatballs, etc. The pastries are very limited and often dry. But the soups are good and if you have a membership the coffee is free. Like I said.... no different than the rest. Not great. Not bad. Just okay. One thing I do dislike very much is they have toilets that are made for small children and for seniors it's very hard to get up and down without having a fixed bar to assist us. The one stall that is for wheelchairs has it, but none of the rest. How hard would it be to install support bars near the toilets and all the stalls? Or get toilets that don't look like they come out of a dollhouse?🫤

THIRD UPDATE (September 15, 2025): came in yesterday. their washable dishware is back, with a new conveyor belt system (you put one tray at a time on the belt). I got a meatball meal sans lingonberry sauce and thought the food portions were acceptable.

HOWEVER lineup processing was still slow. I was there for lunch; they had two lines open this time but only three people working to serve food for both lines, so it took 15-20 minutes to get my food. very unacceptable.

the soup lids had no handles like there usually are, and only the screws were in their place(!?). I lifted the lid of one of them and-because they are so heavy around that screw but light everywhere else-accidentally ended up dropping it in the soup. I managed to return the lid with MUCH difficulty thanks to the poor lid design and the fact that, since it was in the soup, the metal got really hot.

at least a few of the food items were mislabeled. I'm pretty sure there was a different kind of cake placed where the fudge cake section was. I've also been told that the mushroom pot was mislabeled as well (as in, there was a different kind of soup that was NOT mushroom inside).

to top all this off, there were almost no forks to be found on both areas of the utensil retrieval trays. I needed multiple forks but could only find one, and that was because it was buried under a pile of serving knives.

unless things improve, this will have been my last time eating here. the positive change I noted doesn't outweigh all the negatives, including but not limited to a significant safety issue. beyond that, my original issue of not enough workers for all the dining customers lining up hasn't been addressed. it's clear that Ikea prefers to sacrifice employee wellbeing and customer satisfaction so that they can squeeze out more money for the company paycheque.

UPDATE (June 29, 2025): went in to eat today for dinner and noticed a worker who was cleaning the dining room area (this was maybe at 4:30 PM, but this is a generous estimate and should be taken with healthy grains of salt). the worker pushed in the chairs in a way that they scraped across the floor so loudly! it was a terrible, terrible noise--like nails on chalkboard. :(

one proper way to do this to minimize noise would be to lift a chair (so two of its legs point up at an angle) before sliding it in. my guess is that they pushed in chairs with all four legs on the ground. regardless, it wasn't great and I'm glad I hadn't started my meal when this happened or it would have ruined the experience for me.

original review: deleting my review (which I think got hidden anyway, maybe by Google) and making a new one. today's experience would've went a lot better had it not been for the restaraunt being understaffed, forcing its second service area to close and everyone to congregate in one long line. ON EASTER MONDAY. when I went to grab some utensils, I noticed that a few of the spoons weren't cleaned properly either, which really says a lot.

I feel so bad for the employees who worked that lunch shift. making them do more with less is a one-way ticket to stress and burnout. Ikea can, and...
