A Fading Memory.
Liberta Coffee Lab is amongst the wave of new cafes to open within this last year. A sleek and sparkling space located to the South of Whyte ave. The space was very clean and open with outdoor seating available at both the front and rear of the building. However, a large, blank white wall… like an empty canvas waiting to be painted, stretched across the back wall, misplaced and forgotten…while a small menu sat on the front counter right where you ordered. So if you didn’t already know what you were ordering…be prepared to hold up traffic. The espresso itself was nothing out of the ordinary, another bold, bland blend added to the already overly saturated list of boring Edmonton brews. Alongside the unmemorable blend was a lack of customer service. With over four staff members behind the bar and a gentleman (who was probably the owner) perched on his laptop working away at the front. When you open a new space you need to engage with customers to build a rapport. You need to make sure your food and drinks are coming out properly and consistently. As well as creating an environment where people are happy and content. When you don’t engage with customers how are you going to know this is happening? Silence doesn’t necessarily mean good. When you have that many staff members on and are an owner who puts themselves out into the space you better be engaging. The entire 45 minutes we were there not once were we checked up on. No one greeted us when we came in and no one made eye contact with us when we left. If we had a problem, you would never had known about it…and if you engaged this 3-star could have...

Read moreNew place in Ritchie just off of 99st. Parking is free but if you're hitting it at a busy time you may find yourself parking on the street...
Great atmosphere when I got it. A mix of different seating types... Window, communal, benches, tables and even some bar seats. The large windows help brighten the area and gives it a great vibe. Would be cozy if not busy but the day I was there it was hopping.
The coffee (I just had their drip coffee but I got similar feedback from my wife and her flat white) itself is, well, needs work. While not offensive to the palate, it lacks the complexity and depth that coffee aficionados crave. I'm hoping that it's only because they are rather new and it being busy. I'll give the benefit of the doubt that Liberta just needs some more time to fine tune their craft. I'll be coming back again to try them and I do encourage anyone reading this to...
