I visited Red Goose with my family of five in the middle of August for lunch. I was with my parents, my wife and my grandmother who is in her final years. Generally, we are not big eaters. My grandmother typically barely has more than a few bites due to her age and condition. We ordered three entrees. At the time the man that took our order did not say anything, he just took our order and left.
Upon bringing the food to us 15 minutes later, we asked for two side plates so we could share. At this moment, the man absolutely went off on us, yelling and berating us for sharing. He said that it was not acceptable to share and we had to order at least four entrees. Please remember that the order was already accepted and even served at this point. If he had asked us to pay more to share, or said there was a policy of one dish per person etc, we would have gladly obliged (it is not our desire to seek conflict). So we sat there, with my parents and grandmother, and were berated by the man. Then we quickly ate our meal, paid and left. When we paid the man quickly changed his attitude and said happy day or something like that (same as the other reviews mention).
For many weeks I considered not leaving a review because I don't want to harm what is likely a mom n pop operation, but at the end of the day the way we were treated, yelled at, berated and demoralized, for a problem the man created, and I feel as though I am obligated to share this with the public. I am glad most customers have a good experience which is reflected in the reviews, but my experience was awful and I would encourage potential customers to reconsider. Edmonton has many wonderful independent restaurants that could use your support instead...
Read moreLimited menu with nothing that stands out as amazing. I would say subway sandwiches are better (and that's pretty much what's on the menu). I thought the prices were way too expensive for what you get. Tea was $3 (a common household tea bag) and I thought that was expensive. It used to be that these kinds of little things were free back when I was a kid. Most places sell tea for this much nowadays so I tend to not leave a tip to make up for having to pay such high prices on things I consider are a rip off. When I went up to pay and didn't leave a tip the guy demanded to know why. He looked a the bill, pointed at the price and then said out loud that I did not leave a tip. I told him I thought it was too expensive. I thought it was tacky and petty to be demanding it. It looked like he was pretty mad that I did that. It made me uncomfortable and so I think I won't be going back to this place. Who knows, maybe I'm in the wrong, but I'm not big on the tipping culture. I tip when I think the service is above and beyond, or when the prices are very good- that helps in affording to help a...
Read moreMy dad and I used to come here when I was little. I always loved the onion rings, and it was one of our spots. But now, I’ll never come again because of the new owner. My dad who has a medical condition and uses a cane came in and explained that he was third in line at Lucy’s, and has a medical condition and urgently needed to use the restroom. He was yelled at harshly, “NO PUBLIC RESTROOM!” the owner refused to let him use it because he wasn’t dining. He had to wait for my uncle to drive him all the way to Safeway just so he could relieve himself because the anxiety made it worse. This was cruel, unnecessary, and humiliating for my father with a genuine health issue. We won’t be back. Extremely disappointing behavior from this owner, very cruel and heartless owner. My dad has 5 herniated...
