A couple of years ago, my daughter and I worked a few blocks from here. ALL of the staff frequented Dream Donair and wouldn't venture anywhere else - they were hooked! My daughter had been talking about her memories and cravings, so we took the grandkids there for a late lunch. It was the time of day that was quiet, and there was only 1 other table besides us... in fact my grandson mentioned how quiet it was and we thought that they could of had a little music playing. We were greeted by smiling faces behind the counter and the food was cooked immediately. My grandson really enjoyed his fries with donair meat with sweet sauce, and my little granddaughter enjoyed her regular poutine.... although the small order that we ordered for her was only about 2/3rd full, it was fresh and hot with lots of stringy cheese! BUT, my daughter's and my chicken donairs were AWFUL!!!!! We ordered the same ones - chicken with regular garlic sauce, tomatoes, onions and lettuce. I suspect the sauce had 'broken' because there was a pool of grease in the bottom of the bags that the wrapped donairs were put in. My grandson even pointed it out. There were barely any onions or tomatoes, and the little strips of lettuce were translucent with grease! Even worse, though, was that the chicken just tasted - wrong. I didn't finish mine. We were asked how everything was with a smile by the nice young lad who seemed to be in training, and we all said it was good. WHY? Because it was so quiet and there were (at this time) two other tables, and it just seemed out-of-place complaining. But mostly, it was because of the SWEET grandkids who were at the table and who were told they were being taken to a really good donair place and who enjoyed their fries. It was a $57 chunk out of my pocket, which hurts when we rarely eat out, and there are so many other good donair places out there! I could name a couple of consistent places right in the neighbourhood, but I won't. I also won't ever be back to...
Read moreI'm from the East Coast and had read rave reviews of this place. I was in the area yesterday and decided to check this place out.
The donair wrap was outstanding. Donair meat was well-seasoned, cut not too thick (some places do this and it's gross and chunky) yet not too thin (as other places do, like layers of paper) the thickness was just right. The absolute star of the show, however, was the spicy garlic sauce. It is spicy but also flavorful. On the recommendation of the owner, I mixed in the spicy garlic sauce with sweet sauce. It was an excellent taste. On top of that, the fries were crispy and a generous portion.
I had tried Swiss, Top Donair, Queen Donair, Checkers, Babaz, Best Bite, Basha, Mike's Famous, and Buster's to name a few... Dream Donair blows them out of the water. Worth driving around town for. The food was so good I ended up getting a small Chicken Donair to go! Which was also excellent. The owner was very nice and humble. I'll...
Read moreHonestly the absolute best donair in Edmonton. I always...ALWAYS get the spicy garlic sauce donair and it's absolutely amazing. I love donairs and I've tried a lot of shops, but these donairs have a lot of texture in the meat and the sauce is so good, I wish Mo would tell me the recipe so I can make it at home. I like spicy stuff (mostly use sriracha) but this garlic sauce is something else.
Speaking of Mo...I genuinely think out of most donair shops in Edmonton, he's the only guy that understands how to treat a customer. I always have good chats with him and he's a super stand-up dude. Him and his brother.
A jumbo donair is 12.35 and worth every penny. I work in the area and whenever I'm hungry, Dream Donair is where I stop.
I don't typically leave reviews because I simply don't care, but you have to give credit where credit is due.
Thank you Mo for being great and keep making those awesome donairs. Living the dream at dream...
