Great atmosphere but very disappointed with the whole experience. This was my first and last experience with Mikado - at least the south Edmonton location. I really enjoy "sushi" but do not eat raw fish. Dynamite roll has always been my go-to at a new sushi restaurant so I made sure to read the ingredients - more than once - and requested no tobiko. No where did it say it contained fish, just tempura shrimp which I love. When the order came out it had raw fish in it. My friend insisted I try it so I tried a little bite of the fish - all rolls still intact - but immediately felt gag reflexes. I went to the bathroom and my friend had told the server the situation and server said she would have to speak to her manager. When I returned a young man came to our table, he did not identify himself but asked to grab the dynamite roll and whether I wanted anything else. I was crying when he came over, it was supposed to be a very special dinner but I had lost my appetite and said no thank you. He never explained that they could not take the order off my bill. I had told the waitress that if she couldn't- not her fault - that my friend could take it home for lunch tomorrow and understood that it was my first time there and own fault for not asking all ingredients. It seemed like they took advantage of me saying that and went with the easy way out but never offered to pack up the meal. When the bills came I was still charged $16 for the roll which I did not eat and did not receive. I questioned the charge and she said they could not take it off. I said can I at least take it go then so someone else can eat it since I'm paying for it. She seemed a little flustered and said she was not sure whether the kitchen still had it because it was a special order without the tobiko. I said if I'm required to pay for it then I should at least have the option of taking it to go. She said she would speak with her manager and a minute later the manager came out with a to go bag already tied so we could not verify what was inside. It was an awful experience and a lack of communication on their part. I served for years throughout highschool and college and could never imagine making someone pay for something they never ate. I was extremely disappointed with the outcome and how the whole situation...
Read moreAll it takes is one time of terrible service to lose a loyal customer. We went to Mikado on Saturday April 2. Wait time to get in was 40 mins, we decided we will wait. We finally got in and placed an order. We were 5 people, 3 people ordered different sushi plates, my husband and I decided to order the boat. Our table got 3 rounds of their orders, and 1 hour and 10 minutes later my hunsband & I still didnt receive our food. We continuously asked the waitress, and she said she would check and disappears. Finally the boat came. It literally had 3 orders of sushi 1 order small sashimi pieces. What made it take over an hour? The restaurant closes at 8:30, and we didnt get our food until about 810... waitress smiles and says I will give you ice cream because you had to wait so long.
Lets talk about quantity and quality. The size of the sushi rolls and sashimi pieces on this boat were definitely smaller than Mikados' regular sushi roll and sashimi size ( I have photos from days prior when we went there) Sashimi, and Nigiri did not taste as good as the sashimi our group got as a full order.
My husband spoke to the manager about this service. This was our 3rd time there that month. The manager simply said sorry, no explanation offered other than its the weekend, you ordered the boat, and walked away. Our table had minimum 5 orders of sushi and 1 sashimi and it was all made within reasonable time and served, except the boat.
No we did not wait for the ice cream as we were hungry and disappointed. My husband just wanted to pay and leave. The person who was at the front desk went looking for our waitress, and took a while. During that time the manager came back and said you know what, I will give you 20% ... seriously ? Waiting for 40 minutes, then another hour and 15 minutes, got smaller portion than their regular platters, and you offer me 20%?
If you cant keep up demand on the weekend, hire more staff or accept less guests.
We actually left the rest of our group at the restaurant, went to Dairy Queen, grabbed burgers and came back to...

As much as I love sushi, I had a horrendous customer service experience at my last visit to this location. My 5 year old asked to get her favourite meal of nigiri and salmon rolls so I ordered a platter to share with her. My mom had stopped by to drop off an empty water bottle that my daughter had left with her the day before and we were immediately approached by 2 staff members saying there was no outside food or dink allowed. Guys.... it's an empty water bottle, maybe ask about it instead of jumping down our throats about it.
Upon arrival of our food, my daughter noted that all of it was spicy, and we were informed that all the nigiri comes with wasabi on it. Now, I have had a lot of sushi in many different places and I haven't ever been told wasabi was a standard ingredient between the fish and rice. After mentioning it to our server Keem (aka. Geokee Mei, who was great throughout, definitely worth an honorable mention), told us that this was on all nigiri items even though it is not stated on the menu or when ordering. They replaced 2 pieces of a 20 item order. Even for myself, some of the pieces had so much wasabi on it that I almost threw up.
At the end of the meal, I asked to speak to someone regarding the food and Taka (head chef) comes out and was extremely rude. After telling him I had never had wasabi on my nigiri anywhere I have had sushi even at Mikado, he had the gall to incredulously ask me where I have had sushi before like I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm not here to rant but this was a ridiculous experience all the way through, by far the worst I have had at a sushi resteraunt of any kind. I'd rather eat day old salmon and tuna from Safeway than ever return to a Mikado location again.
TLDR: Spent $80 to be told "too bad, you ordered it" and belittled for the whole process. Have a nice...
