Saratoga Restaurant — Restaurant in Edmonton

Went there today and was reminded why hubs and I had stopped going. The staff is friendly and service was fine but the food is greasier than similar dishes elsewhere. And the dishes are basic breakfast/brunch egg and pork dishes with a few beef options. My stomach has been upset for a few hours now since eating there and I have a throbbing headache. Same thing that happened the last 2 times we’d gone there over a year ago, which caused us to stop. Maybe I’m just a ‘canary in the coal mine’ given the other super-high reviews I see here.

And today both hubs and son said the coffee tasted weak and/or like dishwater. Must have been bad cuz my hubs doesn’t usually put sugar or cream in his coffee like he had to / has to here. Disappointing. Otherwise staff and service are fine.

Maybe others have developed a tolerance to greasy food...

Visited the Saratoga for a late lunch which included 2 burgers, a Reuben and an Eggs Benedict. The burgers were a good size that will fill you up and included crispy fries and plenty of toppings. The burger taste was flavorful. The Reuben had crispy fries but was on the small size in the amount of meat in the sandwich although the bread was lightly buttered and toasted. The addition of an acid, a pickle, would be needed. The Eggs Benedict was a failure. The bun was not toasted well, eggs overdone, the sauce was grainy and the hash browns were flavourless. Where the Saratoga shines is the very attentive service and the atmosphere of the location. The cosy diner with wood trim everywhere, booths in every corner created an old fashioned vibe. When I read comments like; Grumpy owner, poor service and bad food, I start to think that they are mistaken and reviewing a different place. I have come here for as long as i can remember. I have come to know the owners and can tell you they are not grumpy in any way. I only know them as warm and inviting. The servers are always friendly and usually play to each table and the different crowds. I witness it with every visit. This place is as authentic as it comes and the service is genuine to say the least. And I don't know where to begin on the food, but i have basically tried everything on this menu, and the food is on point, and out of kitchen as quick as anywhere else.
