The Yolk is Broken!
When are the owners or management going to realize the staff at this location are running this place into the ground? They're not going to have a restaurant if they don't do something about it. The staff are like a bunch of teenagers who like to sit around and drink coffee with their friends while paying customers are just an annoyance for them. I give this place a year, at best based on the comments I'm reading since my horrible visit there. Clearly the owners or management just don't care. They can't even be bothered to reply to reviews and attempt to make things right. Pathetic.
The food was okay. Not great and not terrible. The sausages were cold and the eggs and potatoes were warm. While the server was friendly, none of the staff seem to be in a hurry to do anything. They all seem to have lots of time to be drinking from their own cups near the front of the restaurant while my coffee cup remained empty and I had to beg for refills. Maybe they should try getting larger coffee cups as the ones they have are EXTREMELY small and the staff are clearly not interested in offering refills. It feels like the staff are all friends and there is no leadership whatsoever in this place. The staff seemed more concerned with visiting with each other and drinking from their own cups as opposed to making sure their customers have what they want (and are paying for). Personally, when I'm at a restaurant I find it a bit off-putting to see the staff eating or drinking, but it seemed like that's all these guys were interested in doing when they opened up last Saturday morning. I even witnessed one of the cooks popping some food into his mouth while he was preparing orders - that's disgusting. There is no way there was a manager on duty witnessing what was going on with the staff and, if there was that person needs to be replaced immediately. This was the third time I've been there and I highly doubt there will be a fourth time. $45 for breakfast for two and we have to beg you twice to refill the tiny coffee cups - really? Apathetic staff doing disgusting things while they seem more interested in eating, drinking and visiting with each other. The inmates are running the asylum at this place....
Read moreHey All,
We were kind of tired of going to usual places & wanting to try out something we never been before.
Came across The Bro'Kin Yolk in South common. Being are first time we just went and realized it was fully packed and we were super hungry. We were taken care of by Tanis & Melanie as they realized we were with our new born and opened with our permission a next to corner seat given consideration that baby with car set can be nicely seated on the couch towards the wall.
That is when our server came in place Michelle and I must say she is awesome. Speaking of food since we were so hungry first of all must say bottomless coffee which usually offered by other places too but the interesting part I never had to call our server once to refill coffee. In fact everytime the coffee was nice & hot and refilled by itself before you even think to call someone for it.
We ordered our food and loved the taste of it exactly how we asked. We will surely come again to try out rest of the choices.
In the whole experience there was something which blown our minds was there was a fire drill and the alarm suppose to go off from the time we had our table. Tanis made sure that the alarm is very loud and our new born might get upset with loud alarm. She not only mentioned once and came to remind us exactly before a min when alarm suppose to go off and stayed close to our table in case we would need help to take our daughter out in case she is upset.
Anybody can invite and make food and feed people but this personal touch was something you do not see often every now & then. So we just wanted the management and people to know about all our experience we had.
Few things which I must mention. If you are planning to go eat here please make call and let them know before hand as usually they are fully booked.
Secondly I personally felt the portion size was bit small but that could be just me who was hungry.
Great experience to come back again for...
Read moreRead moreThis is a restaurant that features terrific, high quality ingredients, and unique dishes. The dishes themselves a bit hit and miss. I service is also excellent. I think where this restaurant falls short is how busy they are and how the staff cannot keep up with the work. I tried calling ahead to get on the waitlist but waited on hold for over 10 minutes, then called a second time and still no answer. We drove there and were told it was an hour wait for 2 people, so we waited. Once we were seated, it was another 10 minutes before our order was taken and then another 30 minutes to be served our food. The Loco Moco was outstanding; the rice was perfectly cooked, the eggs were cooked to perfection, the gravy was good and the hamburger steak was excellent. I’ve had Loco Moco in Hawaii (its birthplace). The breakfast poutine with ham, mushrooms and truffle was good. The ham, mushrooms and cheese were on the sparse side, but the poached eggs was phenomenal. The “duck fat hash” (really just fried potatoes) were unfortunately undercooked and hard. The shortrib and duck fat hash was sorely lacking; a moderate amount of shortrib which was excellent, scrambled eggs which were excellent, but served over fried potatoes that were very undercooked and were hard, and large chunks of raw onion and bell pepper which were almost raw. The longanisa was excellent, perfectly cooked and slightly sweet. The bacon was too sweet for my taste and served on a plate dripping in oil. I spent a long time trying to observe the staff and goings-on to figure out why there was so much waiting. The staff are harried and do work very hard…they seem to be swamped with online orders in addition to being incredibly busy with in-person diners and as a result that really seems to push up the wait for food. I would love to come back, but between the 1.5 hour wait for food and how hit and miss the food was, I likely will stick with my favorite...
