I had no plans on posting this review, however the manager/owner and her unprofessionalism I spoke to has earned it. My amazing son ordered me 10” - 2 layer carrot drip cake for my birthday a couple weeks ago . He paid $120.00 + GST We live in Fort Saskatchewan and he drove to south Edmonton to pick it up. He was so excited to give me this special cake . Upon receiving it I looked at it and the presentation was very sloppy made but still I was willing to accept it as it was a gift . I cut a piece out for my husband and I and it was not edible , the outer icing was greasy like the consistency of lard , so nasty, the cake was crumbly, chunky with air pockets and strong in flavour and the centre icing was any but the cream cheese that was ordered. It was gross . My son had left out of town for work and so he didn’t taste it. I did however share with him and I told him I would reach out to the bakery which I did by email . When I emailed the bakery I was extremely polite expressed my concern and what the issue was with the cake and that I would appreciate a full refund. I didn’t hear back but my son was contacted by the bakery owner and she was extremely abrupt and rude and she said she would only refund half of the price of the cake and so I told my son I would call the bakery which I did. I asked for the manager or owner and she answered the phone and as soon as I explained that it was me that sent the email and expressed what the issue was with the cake, again I was very polite, she completely changed her tune and was very rude and I expressed my concern with the cake and that it was not edible therefore I would appreciate a full refund she proceeded to raise her voice at me barely allowing me to get a word in edgewise wise then she said fine in a snarky voice and hung up on me. She was extremely unprofessional for being a business owner. I was appalled on how she spoke to me. I had no intention of writing up a review but she gave me no choice to by the way she handled the situation, the way she spoke to me and my son. **Word of advice to the owner, if you want a successful business then I suggest you learn how to take constructive criticism and perhaps take a course on customer service. You are a very unprofessional owner/baker and as far as I’m concerned you shouldn’t be in this type of business working with the public . I will share my experience with friends and their friends etc. Let this be a lesson that word of mouth is the BEST advertising and it will either make or break you as a business, all you had to do was be polite. I could’ve handled the cake situation but your inability to show a mature way to handle it was extremely insulting, immature and not called for . I do not recommend...
Read moreAfter another memorable encounter with Darcy from this delightful business on Whyte Ave, I wanted to share a sextet of amazing cupcakes she and her team created. As you can see, the Beatles are one of my passions. And my God, you can see the Capitol Records label! How do they do that??!! That is the attention to detail I have come to appreciate and expect from these artists. Besides lovely Belle and ferocious Godzilla from past birthdays, this was my turn for a birthday treat. This business is more than a just a cake shop. Darcy is Heaven-sent in these trying times of war and all of us wondering is Covid over or not. She is the daughter I never had, full of artistry and beauty and love and attention to detail, generous and kind to those who are generous and kind to her. This is not just a review of a business. This is an appreciation of a person. This is to tell you that Darcy will bring sweetness into your life with more than sugar. She is lovely and caring. Head on down to discuss your dreams of a special cake or baked treat for someone special. She is a special person, one who deserves your business. She would be special if she was working at Wendy's or Ikea, but here she is creating magic from sugar and spice. Reach out to her as a business owner, but more importantly dare to make a connection from one person to another and you will be richer for it. Speak to her as a friend, as I now can. Make the Whimsical Cake Studio your next stop when a special occasion is coming. The experience is as rich as the decadent buttercream icing. Take my...
Read moreIf you're looking to order a creative, fun, delicious cake, then stop your Google searching, switch on over to Google maps and hit directions, then start. Get in your car, on your bike, or walk there if you can. You have found what you are looking for! Get down to Whimsical and try one of their cupcakes if you don't believe me, and you'll see all the other tasty treats they have to offer, be lured in by the sweet smells of goods baking, and be hooked by the staff's stellar personalities. Party planning is stressful, but seeing how beautiful the cake was when I picked it up yesterday erased about half of the stress. Also picked up a dozen cupcakes, which came in so handy for anyone who left early, or kids needing an extra sugar boost before they went home. Everyone loved the cake, said it was sweet, but not TOO sweet, the butter cream was downright sensual, the fondant was sweetly tasty, and the design was over the top. My boyfriend's face lit up when he saw it. I couldn't have asked for a better cake ordering experience. Now that the party is over and cleaned up, I'm off to eat the freeze dried treats I stashed away for myself as a post party planning/hosting celebration. Do yourself a favour, and be...
