We had high hopes. This seemed like a nice restaurant at first, with an interesting menu and a nice window seat. However, everything went wrong. It all started with the appetizers; we ordered a polenta with mascarpone shrimp and bruschetta. The polenta was okay, but the bruschetta was plain horrible. The bread was soggy and moist, the topping was way too sweet, and the tomatoes tasted three days old. Everything was covered in balsamic vinegar. Then, not even three minutes later, without having time to finish our appetizers, the waitress gave us our entrees. Since our table was quite small everything was crammed onto it, and we had to mix both of our appetizers on one plate. Then we tried our entrees, which went wrong in all the ways possible. We ordered a rib eyed steak and carbonara pasta. We asked for medium rare but the steak came out rare, with pieces of fat and bone in it. It was served in top of polenta that was way too soggy, mustardy, and topped with countless unidentifiable spices. Finally, we tried the carbonara that I doubted they could mess up. It was inedible. It was extremely creamy, with a very strange aftertaste; it was a mix of chlorine and something unidentifiable. My daughter couldn’t even take two bites without feeling nauseous. Finally, the dessert. By this point we had little hope, but decided to give it one more chance. We ordered tiramisu, and firstly it came falling apart. Then, we tried it, and were met with stale ladyfingers. They weren’t soaked in coffee and were rock hard. This place was a major letdown, and we left it with low spirits and empty stomachs.

We visited The Loaf for dinner as a group, and were pleasantly surprised by all aspects of our time there. The 6 of us each ordered a variety of mains off the menu, and every single one was a hit. Bruschetta (pictured) and garlic bread knots made for an amazing starter. Our server Codey was very on top of things and very accommodating of special requests and a last minute change of entree after ordering. Food arrived quickly, and as mentioned before, was outstanding on all counts. Dessert was a great finale, only got a photo of the chocolate cake, the sticky toffee pudding was gone before I could get a pic. If you've visited before, might be worth giving this one another shot. There was mention of a new chef in the kitchen, so some of the older, negative reviews here may be outdated/irrelevant now. Looking forward to returning for brunch while we're in town!

A Truly Exceptional Dining Experience! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, setting the perfect tone for our meal. The service was absolutely outstanding – 10/10! Our server Zico was attentive, friendly, and made us feel like valued guests. The pizza was, without a doubt, the best we’ve had in Canada. The crust was perfectly crispy and light, and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. The pastas were equally impressive – each dish bursting with authentic taste and cooked to perfection. As for the appetizers, they completely exceeded our expectations – beyond amazing! Overall, our experience surpassed what we had hoped for. We left completely satisfied and can’t wait to return. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for top-notch Italian cuisine.

Decent place to be fair. But need to retrain some of their staff. We stopped in for happy hour, which had a couple OK specials. The server points out in annoyance that simply taking one of 5 empty tables on the patio wasn’t OK and that we should’ve found her inside. OK you obviously aren’t busy, so whatever. Anyway, she walked through the menu and happy hours specials, and said $6 glasses of wine and $6 draught beer. My friend gets a wine and I get a hazy IPA. After 8-9 min she drops our order and bails out before we can get a word in edgewise. My beer was obviously wrong, it was a pilsner, but she was gone like a thief in the night. 7-8 more min goes by and finally we flag her down serving the other table and explain politely, she’d brought the wrong beer. "No, thats the hazy IPA", she explains. Well admittedly, I'm no brew master but I’m fairly certain I can tell the difference between a crystal-clear pilsner and hoppy fully opaque IPA. Especially since they only have 3 beers on tap, one clear, one pink and one hazy. I insist its not the right beer because I’ve had it the day before at another place. She takes it back in a huff with no apology or acknowledgement of error, bringing the proper beer 5 min later. Just dumps it off, says nothing and bails again, despite my replacement hazy, actually being hazy. Its now been 20+ min and I finally have my order. We didn’t order food, we wanted the pasta and they were only offering a limited menu because, “we’re one of the only places open today, and we’re so busy we’re only doing a limited menu.” Ohhhkaay, I guess that’s a reason. After our drinks, we get the bill and the $6 wine is $9. My friend points it out and she says, “no that’s the price, wines not on happy hour.” My friend points out that she did tell us it was and also the table next to us, so maybe she should stop telling people it is on special. No apology, not bill correction, just blatant annoyance with us. Needless to say she wasn’t impressed with my 0% tip. Gives me the first fake valley girl, “thank you so much!”, followed by an even more fake and annoyed, “Thank… YOU SOOO MUCH!” when she realized I didn’t tip. I’m sorry but these days of guilt tipping 18% by tourists has made horrible servers so much worse. We won’t be going back here any time because of her, these establishments should know a garbage server when they see one and retrain them or cut them lose. If they’re as busy as they say, they must bring down hundreds per night in tips when there is no way a table of two is walking away with less than $100 bill at this place. $20 appies, $25 two topping pizza, $9 pints, $15 deserts, you do the math with lowest default tip on the...

We visited Loaf in July 2025. My son and daughter-in-law who live in the valley recommended we try this place for a special birthday celebration. Our normal go-to is the local bbbagel shop when in town, but we wanted something more restaurant-like for the occasion. The restaurant opens for brunch on Saturday at 10AM, and our party of 8 (4 adults and 4 children) arrived right at opening and were seated inside quickly. The atmosphere was immediately inviting - the place smells amazing! Freshly baked focaccia bread stacked up in the kitchen had everyone's mouths watering and set high expectations for the meal ahead.

Our server was upfront about potential delays due to being short-staffed, which we appreciated. We strategically ordered food for our two 3-year-olds first, knowing they're not the most patient diners. After our lattes and drinks arrived, we placed our breakfast orders (omelette, pancakes, eggs benedict, etc).

However, almost an hour after ordering, our server returned with disappointing news: due to staffing shortages, none of the breakfast items we'd ordered could be prepared. She asked if we'd like to review the menus again and order from the lunch selection instead. She was clearly mortified and very apologetic about the situation. We noticed the same thing happening to another table nearby.

At that point, we decided to get our bill and leave rather than start the ordering process over. While waiting to pay, the server returned to let us know the restaurant would be covering our entire bill for the morning.

While we were grateful for their gesture in comping our bill, the experience left our birthday celebration incomplete and our family still searching for breakfast elsewhere. The restaurant clearly tried to make things right, and the server handled a difficult situation professionally. However, the lengthy wait followed by the inability to fulfill our original order made for a disappointing morning. It didn't make sense that they didn't tell us sooner that they wouldn't be able to fulfill our breakfast orders. Given the restaurant's effort to make things right, we will definitely consider giving them another chance on a future visit to Fernie and updating our...

Man, this place looked decent, but got weird fast.

We stopped in for ‘Brunch’…..which is just the normal full menu….

We ordered ‘Eggs royal’ and ‘Spicy Salami sandwich’

Ordering was fast, and the food came out fast as well.

The breads were fantastic, very good.

The egg Benedict, was just that, but on focaccia, and not english muffins. The sautéd veg was a pile off to the side….and the ‘house salad’ was a pile off spring mix off to the side, no dressing, none offered, no e to be had. In fact, when asked for dressing, was informed ‘it’s a side, so there is no dressing’. Weird.

Also, asked for hot sauce, and received as a response ‘we don’t have any….well if I can find it.’ A cream carafe was delivered with possibly a habanero mash, even though I had declined the offer to go searching for the hidden sauce.

The spicy Salami was nothing of The sort.

The ‘spicy aioli’ was possibly a peanut and lime satay sauce, no spice only lime and sweet. Zero spice in sandwich. Part of the items presented title, completely missed the mark.

Finally, service after the plates were dropped was absent.

Did not return once.

There were four tables, and six visible employees. A few had their backs to room, chatting and eating, then handling plates, glasses, menu’s, drinks, etc.

Only one staff was doing the right thing, and washing his hands before handling presented items, unlike everyone else. Pretty apparent complacency for food safety, or even respecting safe handling practice.

Been here twice, was mediocre the first time, and not good the second. Nail in the coffin for this joint, stay away…might even...
