Edit after owner's response: The following response is indicative of the pretentious attitude this establishment exudes.

"Absolutely Brian. We are way too hyped up. We didn’t do the hyping though. Sorry you didn’t like the ribs. We actually had a few other people say that during that week. I think maybe we made a mistake. One mistake in 10 years is pretty good odds though. Hope you are doing well. We will keep trying."

Original: We visited Fernie a few weeks ago for a few days. When we asked people where to go, Nevados often came up. In fact, the bartender at the Legion said they had the best ribs that she has ever eaten. That's a pretty strong recommendation in my opinion.

We went and put our name on the list - they don't take reservations. They said they would text us to confirm and then text us when our table was ready. If we weren't there within 10 minutes, our table would be given away. They said the table would be ready in about 90 minutes (which it was). Unfortunately, we didn't have cell service and there was no workaround that would work for them or us. Anyhow, we stayed fairly close and were able to get a nice table. Our server was good. So were the cocktails. So was our first course - the Patacones $9. We then shared the Tamarind Ribs, the Crispy Pork Belly Bites, and the Mussels. The Pork Belly was good, but the "undercarriage" was better (a slaw of sorts). The Mussels were also good. Once again, the bread that came with them was better. The Tamarind Ribs were horrible. One of the worst dishes I've ever been served. They were so over seasoned that you could barely eat them. My wife had a couple bites of one. I choked down two. We took two to go. Why did we take them if they were so bad? 1) I wanted to give one to the bartender at the Legion that recommended them. 2) I wanted to see if our tasted buds were off and they were better in the morning. They weren't. I had a couple bites and in the garbage the last rib went. The ribs were $25 and you got 5 of them. They weren't big. They were a big rip-off. Totally disappointed.

So, while most of the meal was good as was the service, the ribs were so bad I could only give a 3 star review (which is a really low review for me). In our opinion, there is too much hype and not enough substance in regards to this...

February 11, 2023 Came here with 2 friends during a ski trip to fernie. Highly recommend waiting no matter how long the wait time is. We were quoted 2 hours wait time but we got a text after 15 minutes.

I ordered the pisco sour as a nostalgic order from my visits to south America and was happy with that. A friend ordered the casear and enjoyed thst as well. The bbq flavour in the casear was a nice touch.

Since there was 3 of us the La Familia tacos was a perfect. We went with the achiote pork, pork belly, and drunken beef tacos. Pork belly was obviously the best, followed by a delicious drunken taco but was a bit simple. Good beef taste. And lastly I would say was the achiote pork which was good but dry. I also had the feature taco at the time which had brussel sprouts which was good but didn't wow me.

After the tacos we ordered patacones. This dish came with 6 chips covered in their Pico de Gallo. This dish was delicious and well loved by all 3 of us. Highly recommend, especially for the $9 price tag.

Came back February 24, 2024 with my wife. We ordered 5 tacos: pork belly, bbq pork and the Yucatan style chicken. I think this time the bbq pork was my favorite. It had a small bit of spice to it but was quite nice. All three were quite good and you can't go wrong. But be aware they are on the small size. We also ordered the flan for dessert. My wife thought it was "delightful". Not too sweet. We were seated near the door so we found it to be drafty at times and also found it a bit loud for having conversation at our table for 2.

Came here March 29, 2025 as a group of 5. We were told 2 hour wait and it ended up being 1 hour which we killed by walking around town. Well worth the wait as per usual. This evening we went hard on the tapas. We ordered chips and guacamole, winter squash salad, achiote glazed pork belly, beetroot asada, and the papitas from the tapas menu. The pork belly really stood out. We also ordered La Familia Tacos electing for a 2x of pork belly and drunken beef. The pork belly we felt underwhelmed, especially compared to the tapas order. Our group quite enjoyed the drunken beef though. Next time we would order more tapas though as every tapas dish was excellent, and would order the lamb shank next. Worth the wait and can't go wrong ordering...

We stopped in Fernie overnight while on the way to visit our daughter in another town. We were very excited to try this restaurant and the food was very good but once we got our bill, there was quite a bit of food on it that was not ours. When I say quite a bit I mean like $50 worth. I had watched the server Krista print up our bill. She looked it over before bringing it to the table. She even looked at our table during the printing. From what we can tell she was only serving two tables with a total of four people. When I called her back after reviewing the bill and marking off what was not ours she gave me attitude right off the start saying that was impossible. Then I read out what she had brought to our table and she agreed finally. When she came back with the corrected bill, she had the payment terminal with her ready to go. So I paid after a quick overview of the bill which I got grief for as she stated that “what I don’t trust her to fix it” which I replied no to and stated that she had already argued with me about the food she brought to the table. At this point, we were no longer tipping her since her attitude was very abrasive once we caught the over charge. When she got her copy of the receipt and noticed no tip she then confronted us in a very aggressive tone saying that it’s not fair we didn’t tip and how dare we try to imply she was wrong. We were not going to start anything with her in the restaurant so we left. One the walk home, we went over how everything played out. We fully believe that she added the extras hoping we wouldn’t notice. Especially since she was so quick to escalate the situation and get aggressive with us. Once again loved the food but the service needs to be looked after.

Just for an update... The owner of the establishment got a hold of us and offered our money back because of the incident. I'm glad we got to hear from him since like we said the food and drink were excellent just the service needed to be looked after. He sounded very concerned and said he was going to look after it. When we are in Fernie we would definitely...

Most incredible dining experience I have had in a while. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the delicious food. My server was also pretty awesome, she had made the hot sauce herself that night for the first time as she described, but it tasted like something that was crafted from a seasoned pro. It was very well balanced in both its heat, acidity and sweetness. I ordered the pork belly taco and a pulled pork arepa as well as a starter plate of I can't even remember what it was called, but OMG it was amazing. Everything tasted fresh, and was complimented nicely with coconut ginger bevy I ordered. The pork belly taco was my favourite dish of the night. It seem to be well balanced and I really enjoyed the complexity in each bite. The arepa in my personal opinion could have done with a little less guac as this took away form the overall balance of the dish, but otherwise the flavour profile was spot on. Hot sauce was truly enjoyed the most with the arepa soaking up most of the hot sauce glory. Only tiny critique would be the server (not mine) who dropped off the starter to my table without so much as acknowledging me or telling me which dish she was dropping off, while she wished a neighbouring table a happy birthday and slid the plate in front of me. Didn't even make eye contact. But that was super tiny as a singular critique, and is in no way a measure of the incredible food and atmosphere or level of service I experienced from my actual server. Took an order of Churros to go for breakfast with my coffee the next morning, but alas I must report that they didn't make it till the next morning. I gobbled them up that evening with two, yes TWO dips provided with them. INCREDIBLE. This is truly a gem of a restaurant. I highly recommend this place and I will be back!

Great atmosphere, amazing service, delicious food, reasonably priced. For a tired tourist, this place was exactly what was needed. Details for this who want it... The patacones are a great start. Plaintains fried perfectly, pasilla sauce has a exquisite balance, queso fresco finishes it well. The ceviche market seafood was mahi mahi and it was astounding. Definitely recommend the leche de tigre to polish off the remaining sauce. The la familia tacos were a great choice. Battered mahi was good, if a little fishy, but the pork belly absolutely melted in my mouth. The fat was rendered so well and had such a crispy bark on it, it was the perfect bite. Only complaint was how quickly they disappeared. We also got the jerk chicken. Good reviews from the other three but I wasn't quick enough to get one before they were gone. The yams with chorizo came next, and were tasty. The chorizo is made locally and has a wonderful amount of heat. The yams were decent, but nothing to write home about. The sweet potatoes sauce was good; well balanced, and smooth as silk. One of our party claimed the plate and cleaned the sauce off very carefully with a spoon! Finally were the tamarind ribs. That sauce is to die for! You could serve it on an old shoe and I'd eat the leather. Ribs were fall apart tender, crispy on the outside, and too few. Overall, this is one of the best meals I've had in 2020. Tapas style, eating with friends, great atmosphere... Totally worth coming back for more. See you tomorrow (didn't have room for dessert or a shot of sipping tequila)!
