Hu's Pizza & Donairs — Restaurant in Fort McMurray

As a fat dude who loves all things food and tends to eat take out rather than cook for himself, I can say I've tried most places in town and that Hu's Pizza really is the best in town.

I would say the specialty this guy has is baking the cheese to a point where you get a bit of that crisp when you bite into the cheese before you get to the gooey cheese underneath. I personally ask for extra cheese so you get more of that gooeyness underneath.

I can't speak on the donairs, but the dude is from Nova Scotia so I would bet my money on the things being done right.

Fort McMurray isn't known for it's cuisine, there are lots of places that put no love or effort into their food because the amount of people that come and go for work and are willing to shell out money because they've worked 12 hour days for weeks on end.

I'm not saying this is the best pizza I've ever had, but it's nice to have a place in Fort McMurray that has some home made craft to their food, and Hu the pizza owner (I'm assuming that's his name) definitely cares about his establishment.

You'll walk into the place, it may not seem like much, but as a 34 year old I appreciate seeing anywhere that has an arcade collection from back in the day. I'm not talking like Dave & Buster's arcades either, I'm talking Street Fighter II from 7Eleven in the 90's arcades. It's the nostalgia for me.

If it was run by somebody else, I might not think as highly of the place as I do, but once you walk in through the doors, Hu the owner genuinely appreciates your business and is happy to have you there. He will chat you up with more than just small talk, and you can tell the dude has been givin'er for years, but he doesn't let that wear his personality and customer service down. Dude is a gem, and an authentic pizza shop owner, the only true pizza shop owner in Fort McMurray.

I talked to him, he's been running the place for 30 years, and he is the only one who works there. Day in day out, Fort McMurray will have lost a great one once he retires. I wish Dave Portnoy could come in and meet him and give his place a score.

What else can I say, I find the pizza to be priced fair and affordably in today's market where everything is over priced. And the dude's smart enough to stock his fridge with Pineapple Fanta and Fresca. This guy just gets it!

My recommendation if it's your first time here, get the pepperoni...
