We went to the restaurant to celebrate multiple special occasions at once, on Saturday, May 14. Needless to say, we had an awful and terrible time there.
We were a group of all Black individuals (about 15), and we were approached at some point while eating by a female manager who told us to keep quiet because about 8 tables have complained about us being too loud.
Granted, it's not the first time I have visited the establishment - the restaurant is well known to be a family and friendly oriented one. Large groups usually go there to have good time, watch sports, and eat food. It's not a library.
While we were talking to her, we heard a loud cheer coming from a table that was celebrating the arrival of one of theirs. Another time during our time there, another table and the staff, started cheering and singing happy birthday to another patron. Why didn't she go ask them to be quiet?
The cherry on top is the attitude she had with my 2 years-old nephew. She litteraly shushed him when he tried to talk. Really... To a 2 year-old...
This seems to be a regular occurrence in that establishment as I found 2 other reviews on here denouncing racist behaviours from the staff as well as one other on TripAdvisor.
I'm appalled that in the current climate, people are still so insensitive and are lacking basic human decency.
In contrast to the foul behaviour the manager displayed, we were comforted by the wonderful attitude and professionalism of our waiter (Did I mention we got only one waiter assigned to our whole table?) who even came to us and apologized for his boss' behaviour. He should find a different place to work as they do not deserve him.
We will no longer be setting food at La Station. I urge all people of colour, NOT TO give them their business, and to any ally and decent human being, please stay clear from that business. They do not deserve your hard earned money.
I hope the management or owners see this review and take the necessary actions to educate the staff on these issues.
Racism has no place in...
Read moreWe traveled all the way from Toronto to Quebec to celebrate our grandmother’s 77th birthday dinner at La Station. While the food was pretty okay—not amazing but not horrible either—our overall experience was unfortunately marred by poor service.
We had a reservation for 5 PM but didn’t receive even an appetizer until a little past 6 PM. Some staff members were kind, but our luck with our server, Sacha, was less than favorable. He wasn’t rude, but he was far from friendly or attentive. He seemed indifferent to how our table was doing and didn’t make us feel welcomed.
When we were seated, we informed Sacha that it was our grandmother’s birthday. He acknowledged it, even taking “the birthday girl’s order first.” However, when it was time for the birthday cake, there was no candle, no staff to sing happy birthday, and he simply placed the cake down in front of an empty seat while my cousin was in the bathroom. His only comment was, “She asked for this.” When my aunt asked about the singing, he shrugged and walked off.
Despite our attempts to address the issue with other staff members and the manager, we were met with excuses rather than solutions. The manager explained that Sacha was upset due to a personal issue, but this did not excuse the lack of effort put into making our grandmother’s birthday special. When we spoke to Sacha directly, he showed no remorse and simply said, “But you guys got the cake and brownie.”
Adding to our disappointment, we couldn’t help but notice that we were the only non-white customers at the time, and the other tables (with white customers) received the full birthday celebration with attentive service.
Overall, we were deeply disappointed with the customer service at La Station and felt that our grandmother’s special day was not given the attention...
Read moreIf I could give this restaurant 0 stars, I would. This has been one of the worst experiences of my life! I came here with a group of friends, looking forward to enjoying a fabulous meal. The food was sub-par first of all, but that's not why I'm upset. Once we stepped foot in the restaurant, we got all kinds of looks, not just from the patrons but from the staff as well. As a black woman, I'm used to getting those kinds of looks, but in 2018, one would think that would no longer be the norm. We made a reservation beforehand, and once we got there, we had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. We were a group of 17 people, assigned to ONE (1) waiter. Coincidentally, he was also the only waiter who is a man of color (note the sarcasm). Obviously, he would need some help to serve us because we are a group of SEVENTEEN (17) people. But no, we were ignored by all other waiters, who were white. They would literally walk by us and IGNORE US. Even when it was obvious we were asking for help. They would only acknowledge us to give us dirty looks. Keep in mind, we were not being disruptive or anything like that. Because it was supposed to be a celebratory day, I didn't want to make a fuss. But I am APPALLED. As a PAYING customer, I expect to be treated with the same courtesy as the other patrons, the color of my skin should not determine the kind of service I get. If you are a person of color, DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT. If you are a white person, DO NOT SUPPORT AN ESTABLISHMENT THAT WOULD TREAT PEOPLE OF COLOR THIS WAY. If the manager of La Station is reading this, you should be ashamed of yourself, this is not the way to act or to manage a restaurant in 2018. Talk to your staff - this is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Thank you to the waiter for doing his...
