Okay, so caveat: they're obviously new. Maybe so new they should have waited to open to iron out some kinks... But maybe this is the finished product.
I would LOVE a decent sushi restaurant in this neighborhood. This is not it. We ordered a combo, a "tonkotso ramen", a bento box, some edamame, and a "mountain" sushi roll. Here's what we thought:
The ramen: egg not freshly cooked, hard boiled and split in half. Broth not offensive, but hardly warm, let alone hot or tasty. Noodles stuck together...
The Bento box: tempura shrimp was cold, not even reheated. Wife summed the rest up as "mediocre."
Edamame was served cold.
Sushi combo plate and "mountain" roll were unimpressive.
Big marks lost for staff arguing loudly throughout the meal. Bright fluorescent lighting really sets the mood... Menu was only in English (I'm an anglophone, why am I bugged by this?). ALL of the meal was served with plastic bowls, containers, throwaway soya sauce, and utensils... Isn't this illegal now? They'd asked us if we wanted to eat here or to go, and still we had our food served to us in about a pound of assorted plastic garbage.
I hate being this negative in a neighbourhood that has only really lost good restaurants lately. But for a hundred bucks, I feel like I've just been...

Contrary to the comment below, I don't have identical reviews for multiple sushi restaurants, but I can provide more details.
I was disappointed with my visit to Sushiyana. I was led to believe by some of the five-star reviews ("great vibe," "amazing service") that this was a restaurant, but I found it to be a takeout place with a few tables should you decide to eat there. There are no waiters — I had to go to the counter to place an order with the only menu available. The food (tonkotsu ramen) was served in plastic takeout containers, with the ingredients separate for us to mix together (as we would if we were taking it home), and we were given plastic utensils.
Our order took an unreasonable amount of time to be prepared, considering we were the only ones there. The broth was warm (not hot), but all the ingredients and toppings were cold, and the portion was small (I left hungry). The place also didn't have adequate ventilation—it smelled of a mix of smoke/burned oil and the cleaning agent used on the floor.
I blame myself for not looking carefully at the reviews before going. If I had, I would have noticed something wasn’t right, with various great reviews being about pizza which is not available...
Read moreExcellent gluten-free options. Great prices.
My partner has celiac disease and we ordered the gluten free platter. Although I felt the flavour of the rice didn't match the level of certain All-You-Can-Eat restaurants, the incusion of Korean flavors elevated this platter to a new level.
My partner is normally very limited when she eats sushi, and she was deeply grateful for the opportunity to try so many unique and innovative rolls. She was absolutely delighted at the inclusion of spicy mayo & satay sauces, and to try rolls containing kimchi and other ingredients not normally used to make sushi.
Furthermore, given the absurd prices that AYCE restaurants are now charging, the price point of this platter was excellent. My partner, my daughter and I all ate our fill and were completely satisfied for about half what we normally pay for AYCE.
Great job Sushiyana, we look forward to ordering...
