A hidden gem!!! No really... this place is hidden...down from the top of the hill near the main drag in Goderich and along a winding little roadway, you drive through an old stone tunnel that opens up to this modest looking little restaurant that is anything but modest when it comes to delicious food, and warm welcoming service. Is the atmosphere modern and high end....no... were we comfortable and had a great view... absolutely... A very cool menu cover opens up to a diverse selection of options to satisfy the whole family with some Eastern/central European favourites that caught my attention....My wife and son went with the seared salmon where I opted for the classic schnitzel....We were all completely satisfied with our meals from the salmon which was buttery, cooked to perfection (that a lot of places screw up) to my extra crispy full of flavour schnitzel on a bed of crispy yet soft spätzle...washed down with a cold Czech Pilsner and a classic gin martini... I was in a very happy place!! But that didn't stop my son from ordering the decadent River fritter... or I think we accidentally called it the River tail... no idea why... but it was delicious!!

Looking forward to exploring the menu further on our next visit to...

We recently relocated from Toronto to a small town just under an hour away from Goderich and decided to make the most of our summer break and visit the city which we'd heard many good things about. We were initially hoping for a day by the water, but it just wasn't hot enough for swimming, so we decided to just do dinner and a brief stop to take in a few sights with tentative plans to go back soon.

Dinner at The River Run took our plans for return out of the realm of tentative and right into a firm reality. The food was exquisitely prepared, the ambiance perfect and the service impeccable. I would ordinarily have way more photos of our meals, but we arrived a smidgen hungry and had got lost en route from the park. Sufficed to say, we were all anxious to tuck into what was in front of us that I was unable to capture or main courses in their before stages. After only one forkful, I asked the others, “OK, so when are we coming back?”

We ordered the Salmon and their Butter Chicken, our kiddo had Chicken Wings and Parmesan fries and enjoyed the dish very much.

We all look forward to returning to not just the city, but most especially this gem of...

River Run is a very special place! Marianne and Marten have added all the right " ingredients" to present a warm, inviting and safe environment nestled in a valley overlooking the Maitland River with outstanding views of the golf course and the historic Menesetung Bridge which was one of the longest railway bridges in Canada. Marten lovingly prepares his menus, providing delicious daily homemade soups, each unique in their wonderful flavors and variety. The menu caters to all palattes including excellent schnitzel, butter chicken with curry, fish and chips, reubens, roscitto ,appetizers and salads. Lots to choose from for children as well....a decadent dessert is available for those who dare!..special dishes from the " homeland" are always fun to experience...Marianne is a special lady who makes your dining experience even more enjoyable.. her sense of humor and caring personality are much appreciated , especially in these times.....Marianne and Marten have worked diligently to provide an excellent and unique dining experience for all...

We enjoyed a great outdoor dinner on the last evening of the COVID lockdown, simply meaning, the next night indoor dining was being permitted. We happened to be the only couple dining this particular evening. I had the Jager Schnitzel and my wife had the Classic Schnitzel with the gluten-free coating. The serving sizes were enormous!! When I commented on the size of my portion, the staff member (who I think was an owner) said, "If it isn't the size of your face, it isn't real schnitzel!" :-) It truly was that large. Anyway, the food was great and so was the staff. A key reason for us wanting to try it was the fact that they catered to the gluten intolerant! THANK YOU! It's definitely worth a visit. We'll be back.
