Pulled into Big Bend as a second choice after the Best Western continental breakfast was closed — let me assure you, Big Bend will never be a second choice again. The atmosphere of this place is one of the best of any diner that has ever made my acquaintance — raunchy signs and wooden cabin decor covering every corner, a dedicated hot sauce table (if I had to guess, 20+ hot sauces), an ENTIRE POT OF COFFEE left on your table, a waitress who uses a rip-off white notepad pulled from her apron while peering over her big round glasses, mugs that are both small (to accommodate multiple rounds of coffee) while also being heavy in the hand for coziness, views of snowcapped mountains, and benches that are begging to be lounged on. This place feels like your grandparents diner from the 70s, except with modern frills like calorie-free sweetener, squeeze bottle ketchup, and a card machine that can sometimes tap.
The food was exactly what you want — a diner breakfast. Crispy hashbrowns, homemade sausage links, fried eggs, incredibly well buttered toast. I don't know what else can be said — it's breakfast, not foie gras.
If you're looking to be full, happy, and shaking from over-caffeination with the best views you could ask for, look no further...
Read moreTo start this review off, the place was cozy and the walls were covered with fun décor. I enjoyed the French toast which came with bacon, eggs, hash browns all served on a HUGE plate. My partner had the pancakes, bacon, eggs and hash browns and was smiles the whole time. Our food was served in a timely matter and hot. However, we did not experience good customer service. Right from the moment the server greeted us it was terrible. No smile, no proper greeting, no "how are you" and a tone/facial expressions that told us we were an inconvenience. We started to notice this as a trend for a few other tables, except the one in which held a elderly group. We also noticed a child behind the counter and no other servers on hand. This changed at 9 am when two other servers showed up and started work. The server who was handling our table had a 360 degree change in attitude, but only towards her coworkers. Laughter, smiles and conversations were had between the three. When we were done we paid and supplied a tip even though we didn't want to. I am not sure if the server was having a bad day or if this was her regular treatment towards customers. Either way we did no appreciate it and made us not come back the rest...
Read moreService was absolutely terrible. The older lady with the brown hair was the only one working. All she was doing was complaining to customers that she got called in and that she had 10 minutes to get there. She was complaining that she’s going to leave this job and go back to paving. I don’t think that’s what people want to hear when eating their breakfast or trying this place out for the first time. It took an hour to get our food, on top of it we had to ask for drinks. This lady (I wish I got her name) goes “uhhhh” then sighs and goes” uhmmm I guess, what do you want then”.... not even a sorry for not offering us drinks for over an hr. The fact we got our food before drinks.. No sorry. Acts like I just asked for the entire menu. Acts like it’s the biggest inconvenience for her. She then comes back and hands us our drinks and walks off. Not once did she come back and ask us for ANYTHING. No how is your food? Want a refill? Etc.... We go to pay doesn’t say anything still. No have a great day, nothing!!! On another note I wish I could of gave this a better rating because the food was amazing. Great portions. The view of the mountains is beautiful. The inside is so cozy. But just that...
