I thought long and hard before posting this review, because I have been supporting kind ice cream since they opened and it was just the two of them. If they see this review I hope they understand.
Background: I visit this place about once a week across multiple locations now, bring folks here to introduce them to it, even encourage people to support this place on the regular, because it’s local, good, and worth every penny - or so I thought.
What actually happened: It was my birthday last week, and I was looking forward to heading to my old faithful place for a bday scoop of ice cream. Something they have done for me for years up to this point. I was met with an already rude person at the counter, who most certainly didn’t seem like they wanted to be there - which never feels good, but especially when you’re spending $14 on two scoops of ice cream. They didn’t even let me finish asking if they still did the kids size scoop of ice cream for your bday, before I was told ‘you have to sign up for our rewards program and then confirm your email and then…blah blah’ and I was like ‘ok, yeah I’m not going to do any of that (it was 9 pm and my birthday dude, what the heck?) thanks anyways.’ I was there anyway and thought you know, the owners are still good people and they built this business, they can’t keep track of how their employees treat everyone, and their product is still good. So, I got the ice cream, paid full price. I even tipped this person 25% because I thought hey, they work hard and maybe they had a bad day. How wrong I was! I actually left to eat it because it was SO uncomfortable in there from this persons attitude. They literally threw the ice cream scoop down and went to the back to vent about me and my ‘audacity’ (?) to the person in the back while I was still visibly inside!? Which I found super unprofessional.
When I went to eat the ice cream, it didn’t even taste like it usually does. It was one of the regular vegan flavours I always get, and it was so inconsistent compared to usual. I asked my boyfriend to try it because I thought I was just in a bad mood and he spit it out and said it tasted sour/off. I got through half of it before I just threw it out and went to superstore to pick up some dairy free take home ice cream instead. While I was doing this, I realized how inconsistent kind ice creams customer service and quality of product has been as of late (this last summer specifically has been absolute garbage - about 5/10 times they’ve gotten it right, which is not good when you’re a local business…maybe they’re spread too thin with the new location?)
Unfortunately, because of this experience, I’ll be very hesitant to return to kind ice cream again and I will no longer encourage folks to support them. I will encourage people to save their money and time and go to the grocery store to get their dairy free dessert fix: pretty consistent quality, price, and I served myself so I didn’t have any poor customer service experience.
I’m still in shock from the experience, and I hope that kind ice cream reads this review and realizes the impact, improves their customer experience, and rewards loyal locals who literally keep their...
Read moreAmazing! I came here a while ago with my Grandma and sister! I was intending on taking them out for ice cream! We waited in line, and the line was out the door and around the corner! You could tell right away the reputation and popularity of Kind Ice Cream! I loved the variety! They even have a vegan ice cream! Which I opted to try. I got 2 scoops, I think one was some sort of raspberry lemon, and the other a chocolate peanut butter. They were honestly so good! I am very much a chocolate person, but I actually loved the raspberry one way more! Definitely worth trying even if you aren’t vegan! When it came time to pay, I was going to use Apple Pay, but I was having problems. I didn’t bring my wallet and I told the cashier that I would be right back (I don’t live far) I could go and get my wallet. She actually said “No, that’s okay! Ice cream on us!” WOW! I was so shocked and happy! For the 3 of us it was almost $40 in ice cream! We really went all out lol! They took care of the whole bill. The girl, I think her name was Carly, was so sweet! She said “it’s the name of the game, kind ice cream!” 10/10 would recommend! They really...
Read moreI went into this place pretty apprehensively. I’ve been diagnosed celiac a few years now and my experience with ice cream shops hasn’t been the best (cross contamination, full on gluten…if you know, you know). I spoke to the lady at the front, and explained I’m celiac. She assured me they take allergies seriously, use fresh scoops, wash counters before serving, but there are no guarantees. I decided to chance it. I got a single kids scoop and then she asked if I wanted a gluten free cone? THERE’S GLUTEN FREE CONE!!?? How delightful, yes please. I ate ice cream in a cone for the first time in three years; it was fantastic and I felt great. No “gluttening” for me. The ice cream was the best I’ve tasted in a long time and the cone was amazing, better than a lot of gluten free cookies in my opinion. The menu items state “gluten” or “vegan” so you know without asking, which is also great to see. I totally recommend this place and I’ll be back again! I hope this review helps a few of you celiacs out there that just want to feel comfortable eating ice cream (in a cone!) on a...
