Fionn MacCool's — Restaurant in Greater Sudbury

If there was a no star, that would be my rating! Went in on st paddy’s day with 3 others! I realize it is one of the busiest days of the year in the bars as I have been a server for 40 years and am still serving! Our table was right at the bar entrance so servers were always around but not once did any of them come to our table! I had gotten drinks at the bar prior to sitting down at our tiny round table! Fast forward and table is full of empty glasses (again it was a tiny table so didn’t take much) also dirty dishes from food dropped off prior to my arrival and no server giving us the time of day! So I clear the table of glasses onto the end of bar by dishwasher and try to get the bartenders attention to come see us but got sternly told by the girl behind the bar “SIT DOWN, I’ll be right over!!! Approx 10 mins later she came and got drink order, dropped them off but didn’t clear off empty glasses or dishes!! approx an hour later not 1 person again has come to check on us so again someone from my table got up to get bartenders attention and literally got yelled at ..SIT DOWN!!! Now if anyone would have been attending to us in the first place we would not have felt the need to get up to get someone’s attention so the only way to get service was to stand up get yelled at to sit down then would finally get service ! It was horrible! Another server I know was sitting at the bar and in convo with her she asked why the bartender yelled down the bar in our direction to sit down! I said you heard that? And she said everybody did!! How embarrassing is that and she also said her service was horrible! Also another server I worked with years back was there with her mother and she told me they were leaving to go elsewhere as service was terrible! Rob the bartender needs to learn some basic serving skills as he simply could have said .. do you mind just sitting down we will be right over instead of screaming down the bar unbelievable service from him and the other girl behind the bar !! I AM NOT a demanding customer as I know all about serving demanding people and how frustrating it is but we seriously could not get service unless prompted! The restaurant should have had full staff on knowing how busy it was going to be and if they did, well then they need better staff ! Will...

I hate to say this but our experience with this restaurant was really unpleasant. Right from the start the cell phone sign in at the door was not suitable for us as we stood there trying to figure out the process. We are seniors and not tech savvy. The web site advertised Taco Tues. so being it was Tues. on the day we were celebrating our granddaughters graduation and taco's are her favourite we went there. While trying to get signed in I asked the hostess about the taco's and she had no idea what I was talking about and never offered to find out. We should of known right there something wasn't right but we continued on to give the place a chance thinking maybe the waitress would know more. We decided to sit out on the patio and we were seated on wet seats! It was raining off and on all day and no one had the presence of mind to dry the seats. All 3 of us ended up with uncomfortable damp butts for the rest of our afternoon which we had planned on doing some shopping. We picked out 3 different beers before we found one they had that we liked and our granddaughter ordered chocolate milk. The waitress didn't know what taco Tuesday was either but did let us know the only tacos they had were fish tacos. Our granddaughter does not like fish! The chocolate milk was not the real macoy but was a small glass of milk with some chocolate sauce in it which our granddaughter said was gross. When the waitress brought the milk out she informed us the beer was going to be a bit because they were changing kegs. After looking at the limited menu and prices for what was being offered, we decided we were not going to stay. We asked for our bill for the milk which was $3.50 so we paid with our MC not having any cash on us and there was no way to pay on their machine without leaving a tip! We actually had to leave a tip in order for the machine to except the payment for the milk so we could get out of there! We paid $5 for a half a glass of milk that was gross. I usually enjoy going to this restaurant I really like their Yorkshire pudding stuffed shepherd's pie. Which I ordered today and it wasn't too bad it could have been a little bit hotter. But the flavor was there. I also ordered the beet salad which I've had before and very much enjoyed I had it with these steak. Although the steak tonight was cooked to Perfection it had no flavor whatsoever and I needed to Salt it several times to get it to have any sort of flavor. The salad was presented differently than it has been in the past it was all together in a bowl and mixed so it was very difficult to pick and choose the bites I wanted to have period when I've had this salad before the two different types of Beats were presented beside each other the onions the blue cheese the walnuts and the salad were all presented in a plotter Style and then the steak was presented on the end this was a delicious way not only visually but also to be able to eat it and know what you're eating in each bite. When it was mixed together it became a jumbled mess and the flavors melted together in a different way that was not as appetizing. I also had the brownies with ice cream and I found that the ice cream had a stale flavor to it it was partially melted when it arrived at my table and the brownies left a lot to be desired. I only had a couple of bites out of the one brownie and two spoons of the ice cream at 695 it was a little expensive for I'm not so great dessert. I also had a hot chocolate that was not very good although the server did go out of her way to make sure I had whipped cream on top which I did appreciate.
