This is more of a no tell motel. I booked this for my boyfriend, children and I. They billed our room hours in advance. I’ve never stayed in a hotel where they take your “deposit” as a means to bill you for the room. It was MORE than the room cost. Even GWL is half or so what the room costs. Then they don’t bill you for the room (that part I was ok with afterwards). The “breakfast nook” in the lobby is 90% out of service. What they do offer for breakfast is literally a brown bag lunch. I didn’t even bother looking at what was offered, as they were all literally in brown paper bags. Nothing was laid out so you had a choice to see what was there. It’s like it was a homeless shelter. Like I said in the title - no tell motel. The whole building is only 2 floors so there is no elevator you have to carry everything upstairs if you’re on the second floor, the door to which isn’t easy to do and if you have children with you it either means carting them up and down with you on stairs or leaving them alone in the hotel room. The one stair case smelled like urine and a musky basemen. Our room had 2 sticky spots on the carpet, holes in the screen, the room REEKED of cigarette smoke they tried to mask with a glade plug in (speaking Erin someone else who rented a room theirs did as well but they only got spray in their room, they were below us), there was cereal under the one desk, and a massive chunk of hair in the bathroom behind the door! If you’re wondering my hair is purple not black, my children have blonde hair. The beds were doubles, and were the shortest doubles I’ve ever slept on in my life, I’m 5’8” and when I stretched out my feet they were off the bed. When I mentioned these things to the desk they were Iike we can’t do anything about these because you booked through a third party booking site (it’s their PARENT SITE by the way, I just had a corporate discount). There is no excuse for lack of cleaning. The fact that most vehicles were gone by 630am just confirms this is likely a no-tell motel and not a hotel. I’d never stay there again. Next time we go to Sudbury to see Science North and Dynamic north we will pay a bit more for a proper hotel Vs a dive. The only thing I’ll give them is we didn’t...
Read moreBeds were comfy and amenities were good for the price, but the room was not very clean. Lots of hair on the bedspreads when we checked in, and the bathroom floor looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks (especially behind the bathroom door). The inner bedsheets and towels appeared to be clean, just obviously not a lot of attention to detail in the housekeeping or final room inspections.
The man working at the desk, both when I phoned to reserve and also when we checked in, kept cracking awful jokes to the point it became incredibly frustrating. I realize this sounds like a small thing to complain about, but he would not stop even after it was quite clear I was not amused. His "jokes" included not allowing my friend to enter the lobby at first, and after we kind of awkwardly laughed about it and went to walk inside, he became persistent and insisted he was very serious that he didn't want him to enter. Eventually he smiled and said he was joking, but it went on for way too long and stopped being funny after the first time he said it. He also said stuff like our room wouldn't have any blankets or pillows so we better have our own, and again when I rolled my eyes about it continued to pretend he was dead serious for too long. I'm sure some people get a kick out of it, but he needs to learn to read the room. Especially when paying guests are clearly annoyed and dying to finish the check in process so we can make it stop. After traveling all day I want checking in to be quick and simple.
I also thought it was very odd to be asked upon check-in to initial beside a policy stating I would be charged $250 if we stained the bedspread. I'm guessing that must be a common problem at this place, but I've literally never seen such a weirdly specific policy for a basic duvet and top sheet, even at high-end hotels. We will try somewhere...
Read moreI don't often leave reviews but I felt compelled to leave one for the Rodeway. ||Let's start with the good.|Attached to the hotel are 2 good restaurants and a lovely cafe. The location is great, near Science North and downtown. As for the hotel, and the room itself, not so good.||This is not a 3-star hotel as advertised. It's a 2 star, at best. Contrary to what's written on Trip Advisor, breakfast is NOT included (found that out upon arrival, after asking just to make sure). ||I found out, also upon check-in that the hotel didn't have hot water, and that "it's being worked on". I stayed 3 nights - the hot water never came. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told that he would be in the next morning. I went to the front desk the next morning only to be told that the manager doesn't work weekends. ||Despite all the fancy settings on my fan/AC - it had only 2 working buttons/settings that worked - off, and very high. |My room had a very musky smell, that despite keeping the windows open, never went away - it's the kind of smell that comes from old, sticky and stained carpeting. I wondered about the history of this building, and how a funky smell like that can get trapped so strongly and never really go away.||The walls are paper thin, so If you like a quiet nights' sleep, hope that the rooms surrounding yours are empty - if you have neighbours, you will hear every footstep, and every nuance of every movement. The rooms are non-smoking but you'll smell smoke as guests often open their patio door and smoke at their doorway or steps from it. ||You get what you pay for. If you're looking for a bed and bathroom, it's great. If you're looking for what's advertised, best to look elsewhere as there are plenty of other options to choose from that offer the same location...
