So much about this place is a time capsule, business has been serving up burgers since at least the sixties and not a lot has changed. It is a charming throwback fast food spot and uniquely Canadian. I visit once a year from the States and this place is really solid with one glaring weakness. The positives, friendly staff, Canadian nice is a thing, but they do a great job. The fries are frighteningly good. I pass a lot of fry shacks bragging about fresh cut fries. Well this place has got um too and they do them right. Double fried so they are crisp, the right amount of salt. And can we talk about the gravy, y'all? It is Swiss Chalet like, but just way better. It honestly confused me, gravy and fries is not done in the States, and if we make poutine it is brown gravy. This stuff tangy, zesty, just addictive. Slaw home made and vinegar based. Milk shakes, thick and delicious. Most platters are lovely. They have a fresh home made dessert, little pie, we'll say it is butter or sugar tart. Richer than Bill Gates and sweeter than a mother's love. The one week point, the beef for the burger. It was clearly frozen, most likely had soy or TVP added. So many great things going and then you get school lunch type beef burger. Like there is this incredible offense on a football team, except for the QB. Last thing that seemed odd to me, I don't think they have ice here. I am sure if I lived in Sudbury full time I'd have my fill of ice in winter, but not a single cube in my...
Read moreI tried this establishment for breakfast for the first time and was very pleasantly surprised. It serves a niche in the local restaurant industry, providing simple hearty food in a casual self serve diner experience using disposable plates and cutlery on plastic trays. My ratings are based on my view of how well the business fulfills its niche. Much like a Kia and Ferrari are very different vehicles with vastly dissimilar purposes and clientele, so is Deluxe and Cora's, for example. The food was freshly prepared, my eggs over easy oozed yellow goodness when cut into. The home fries were in the shape of fries but had that delicious home fries taste. I received 2 pieces of toast and 3 decent sized sausage links in my meal. The total cost of the meal, including tax, was $7.50. A never-ending cup of coffee is an additional $1.70. The counter staff were friendly, energetic, and diligent. Breakfast is served from 7 AM to 11 AM daily. The environment is relaxed, clean, casual, and filled mostly with diners in the mature age groups. Note that tip is optional due to the self serve business model. As a value proposition in the Sudbury diner , Deluxe sits atop the food chain (pun intended); explaining my 5* ratings. I've attached pictures of the food, menu and the interior taken at...
Read moreI like giving great Reviews normally but, I have gone back each time in Hope's that maybe my displeasure is a one off. I will start with the food. Deluxe was always well known for the tasty gravy (sauce)for their fries. Yummy! In the last 5 yrs or so, it has changed to a very bland no taste gravy (sauce)🤔 It is no longer tasty and enjoyable. I have guests from out of Town who used to live here in Sudbury, they will no longer go to this Particular Deluxe. Sudbury has two. Unrelated. It was a go to every time they travelled in. The other important issue to point out is the service. From the same gentlemen who answers the buzzer who takes the orders...I have noticed that you never greet paying Customers? A Hello goes a long way. A friendly greeting is great Customer Service. I have worked in Food service and your business is lacking in greetings and when I go to pick up at the window, then again your different employees do not greet! It is sad that employees and Owner cannot say Thank you to their Customers. I am not going back. I have always supported Sudbury's oldest establishments with pride. I have to be fair in my Review. I suggest teaching your Employees Customer Service. Maybe these suggestions about the sauce and service could improve. I hope it will. I give...
