So far the service is poor here. We've been waiting for 25 minutes its to gwt our order taken and we've had 3 people cone in after us and get their food before we've ordered..
We've ordered now after 25 minutes, its 1:40 now, pretty busy but no excuse to forget about the biggest table here..
The diner itself is old style; maybe 70s or 80s. You can tell its never even renovated since its opening however many decades ago. The middle tables feel cramped and crowded. I feel like I have to squeeze myself in to avoid getting hit by people walking by.
Food came in really quick after we finally ordered. The grill cheese was your basic run of the mill with processed cheese. The Canadian burger was quite good I must say; the patty was hand formed and nice and thick and evenly distributed and very juicy which I like, the peameal also cooked to my preferred satisfaction and the onions with that made it an all round good burger. The side of fries were huge as well! And for the price I'd say it was a very good bang for your buck. The fries themselves weren't anything out of the ordinary and the gravy was a bit dry and had a unique flavor almost as if the salt they used in it was the same salt used to make a clamota cesar. The coleslaw was very good to my surprise as well, they use pickle spice with it to make a coleslaw flavor I've never tried before.
So overall the atmosphere was a bit hectic and felt cramped. So I'll give it 2 stars
The service was flustered and under maintained so I wouldn't go back for the service alone. So that being said +and believe me I could go on) I'll give it 1.5
The food however came quick and was portioned very nicely and cooked to near perfection. They don't use real cheese on their sandwiches though. I'll give...
Read moreAs a former resident of Sudbury, Jaks holds a warm place in my heart. Sadly, I think that’s cooled over now. At 11:30 am, the business has locked their doors to refuse entry of additional customers. I was alone, and knew full well that I could have simply sat at the bar to order my usual when I visit. Not an option when denied entry. I was also concerned for the customers, if a fire broke out. As for food, I was hoping to have a better experience than the last time I visited, in March 2023, when Greek hash was mostly gnarled, chewy beef chunks. I really wanted to see if they have improved or turned things around, cooking-wise. Sadly, developments in professional behavior has soured my curiosity. I guess when I’m asked where to eat, I’ll just lament how amazing the Jaks once was, and recommend the many other breakfast options that still try to encourage business. Genuinely saddened to see them...

Jak's in Sudbury fit that bill for breakfast. Old school hole in the wall joint that hasn't been updated since its likely been opened. Faded pictures on the wall, chrome and naugahyde chairs, old vibes....
What you see here is the "wild west grilled cheese", it's what you get when you combine a grilled cheese, a western sandwich and garlic bread and it's down right amazing! The homes were likely the best I've ever had, the dill and parm aioli was the perfect compliment. 👌
So if you're passing through Scuzbury give this...
