Cobs bread is a menace to society! They call to me like a siren song to a sailor long lost at sea, you resist as much as you can until you're lured in by promises of baked wonderfulness. Then, they have the audacity to provide such excellent food, the dopamine triggers instantly. Maybe you fear judgement, as you buy not one, but 2 Chocolate croissants. Maybe it's for you and your spouse on a lazy sunday morning, or maybe its for you alone on the couch under a blanket of wool and crumbs. Illusions of control fade as to your tally, you add a loaf of their freshest White Vienna bread, and oh, are those hot cross buns catching your eye? Social pressures can do wonders to keep baser instincts in check, but the staff provide a reassurance, this is a safe place, you can give in, and they'll guide you along your way to a carb coma. Worse, the don't include any sort of warnings making it very easy to end up going back 2 or 3 times in a week!
Whether it be Linny, whom I've heard rumour makes all of the bread single-handedly yet I cannot verify, enthusiastically pointing you to the freshest loaf, or Mr. Moustache who at the drop of a hat has the perfect pairing for whatever your plans entail. Making grilled cheese? You want the garlic cheese bread, a hearty soup? Crusty Italian, thick sliced. All the staff I've dealt with (of which I've met many given my psychological dependence) have been exceptional so even though I didn't shout them out directly, they are still rockstars. Deborah is also fantastic and a reliable source
We live in dark times, a new existential threat rising with every season, institutions failing, leaders fumbling, and the world we once knew, slowly fading into distant memory, but you know what doesn't change? Flour, water, eggs, sugar. A warm hug in a cold, harsh world.
Dessert, meal, appetizer, snack, Cobs has it all. So go, it will enrich your life, and nourish your soul, but ultimately it will hearken back to the good ol'days and inspire better days to come, which I think we...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent shortly after opening to grab a selection of pastries for my wifeās birthday. Not a lot of selection available yet, lady serving seemed annoyed when I asked if there was anything else available. We got cinnamon buns last week that were iced nicely, these ones they barely put any on them. As I was paying, she told my kid to stop playing with the door when he was waving at the sensor that says āwave to openāā¦apparently it was turned off but Iām still not sure why him waving at a deactivated sensor is an issue or warrants being told to stop. Too bad it wasnāt actually working, we couldāve left sooner. Rude service, disappointing early morning experience. We had good service last week so hopefully this was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter looking online to make sure they had vegan products I went into the store this morning hoping to purchase their vegan cinnamon buns. The girl at the front counter wasnāt sure about anything vegan so we did talk to a baker from the back. He did point out a few items that were vegan. He said they did not have any cinnamon buns that were vegan, but that was only a seasonal thing!? So I chose an apple pastry ring. They all looked like they were over done (a bit too brown) but I pay for it and brought it home for my guests. It was very disappointing, not much flavour and it was over done on top! Thereās so many better options in Guelph to buy good bakery items. I will not be bothered coming...
