This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Guelph BBQ is a complete joke.
They have the nerve to call this a Chinese restaurant, yet not a single staff member — not even the owner — speaks Chinese. That alone says everything. It is fake, misleading, and honestly insulting to real Chinese cuisine.
The soup was absolutely disgusting — packed with MSG to the point it made me feel physically unwell. No depth, no quality, just chemicals masking terrible ingredients. And then comes the biggest slap in the face: the final bill was more than double what was expected. Pure robbery.
As for the “mango salad”? An unrecognizable pile of mush. Tasteless, watery, and straight-up inedible. Whoever put that dish together clearly has no idea what they are doing.
This place is a scam — overpriced, fake, and disrespectful to anyone who actually knows what Chinese food is supposed to be. I cannot believe they are getting away with serving this kind of garbage.
Avoid this place like the plague. Save your money, your stomach, and your sanity. Guelph BBQ...
Read moreThe shrimp dumplings (har gow) were very disappointing - barely any shrimp filling (about the size of my thumb tip). We were basically eating thick dumpling wrappers. The Cantonese chow mein was also very disappointing - the noodles were not crispy (which is the entire point of this dish), the portion size was small, and it was at least 50% vegetables.
The place said eat in / take out but they are definitely NOT a service-oriented sit-down place. I had to order and pay at the cash register and the young girl who took my order seemed very clueless, e.g. she had to ask her mother if they had shrimp dumplings when they were right there amongst stacks of dim sum steamers. She also forgot to bring my table the shrimp dumplings and I had to go up and ask for them. When we were almost done our meal, the mother came by and asked if we wanted water....
The two stars are for the meat spring rolls and dry-fried green beans, which were tasty and restaurant-quality.
I guess all the 5-star reviews are for their take...
Read moreWe were so excited to finally try this place. The lady who took my order, over the phone, was extremely nice and she was just as nice when I picked up. Not sure if they have a new cook or it was a bad night, But the food was some of the worst chinese food we have had unfortunately. The BBQ Pork was dry and chewy, the noodles had no flavour. The beef ho feng had no sauce on the noodles or beef so it was just dry beef and noodles. The chicken fried rice was also incredibly dry and flavourles. The chicken balls and chicken wings were incredibly greasy (tasted like the oil was old), which usually means the oil wasn't hot enough when cooking. The only thing that we enjoyed were the vegetable spring rolls. I wanted to love it, but we had a lot left and threw it away as no one wanted the leftovers. Sadly...
