1/10/24- another late night dessert night with my daughter. The owner was in tonight and is always so very kind and attentive. The server was was polite. We had cake and coffee and I ordered a burger to go. They never rush us out even though it's late. 12/16/23- another great meal and exceptionally good service. Came in with my mom who wasn't feeling very well. Our server Paul grabbed her some gingerale and crackers and suggested the chicken soup..he was so kimd and kept checking in with ua to see how she was doing. 11/27/23 -Once again stopped in with my daughter for dessert after a walk. Dan was our server. As always we had amazing service. He was attentive and very polite. He Made us some spectacular drinks. Very friendly conversation. ‐--------------------------------------------------- Stopped in with my daughter after an evening walk. We stopped in fairly late, to have a slice of hummingbird cake and a coffee. Thomas was our server and was fantastic. Very attentive, and polite. I'd go back again just based on the service but the cake was also a hit 😉

My husband and I came in for lunch today having never tried Symposium before. Our waiter was super friendly and did a great job through our time at the cafe. The problem is the food. We had the warm spinach dip to start, my husband had the Symposium burger and I had the vegetarian wrap with Caesar salad. Now, the Caesar salad was great, and the flavors of the other things were good, but good God they use so much oil that I had to hold my wrap with a napkin. And my husband's hamburger bun had disintegrated before he could even get a proper bite in. The dip even was solid oil. All we could taste, even after eating the dessert (which was great btw and I can see why Symposium is famous for dessert), was oil. There was no flavor left behind because of how oily everything was. I didn't expect that coming here and especially didn't think that it would be the case with a vegetarian wrap. You can literally see in the one picture how bad the oil was for even one part of my wrap; the other side was so wet the wrap had disintegrated basically. So while the service was great, and the dessert was really nice, I don't think we will be coming back here due to the food and the fact that it was almost $100 for our food when it didn't feel worth it.

This was by far my worst experience at a restaurant in Guelph. We spent 30 minutes on the phone ordering, because the server did not know what was on the menu and kept running from the kitchen to speak to us and did not understand anything we were saying. After ordering, he did not ask for a name, a phone number or provide any details and hung up. We had to call back and ask for the cost and ETA. He said 30 minutes.. and when we arrived we waited an additional 15 minutes for him to bring out the wrong order.. blaming us and saying he asked the kitchen and that’s what they made. We asked for the vegetarian bowl and he came out with a burger. Then, he had to make the order right after fighting us on it. The manager came out and touched the food with his bare hands and told us to take it. There were also things missing from the order so good thing we checked. They were unapologetic and extremely rude. Upon getting home, I opened my soup and it’s smelled rancid and had a tangy flavour, they definitely had it sitting out and it was spoiled. Save your money and your time and buy from another restaurant that is actually good quality food and good customer service.

We ordered pick up from this establishment. The salad was sent without any dressing and the lettuce was rotting. The food was all ice cold, we have pick up from State and Main further away and it is never cold like this. The sauce on the salmon was congealed, you can peel the sauce off like jelly skin. The chicken is plain, unseasoned and so dry. There was only 1.5 small potatoes, with dried rosemary just sprinkled on top. My partner called to replace the salad dressing and left before he was aware of the state of the rest of the food. The restaurant replaced the salad, with more rotting lettuce in the new salad as well. Inadequate service and accountability, very disappointing. Would not recommend, the quality and service were awful. Edit to add: after picking out the worst of the lettuce, we tried to eat the salad. It was so slimy, and there was something very wrong with the olives. They tasted very off, kalamata olives are my favourite and I've never had them taste like this.

Symposium is one of our favorite early bird dinner places to go. Nice cozy cafe and reasonable food choices. However, I tried this new dish "Portobello mushrooms with spiralled zucchini" tonight, there were just too much portobello mushrooms and zucchini was kind of too plain. I would not recommend this dish to anyone, even vegetarians. ~~~~~~ This is my review for another visit. I tried this new Korean marinated salmon with Thai coleslaw. The plating is terrible! Made you feel like you get half of the meal. A little rice, a small salmon filet, a bit coleslaw. Very disappointed and sad to see this place is getting worse in the last couple of years.

Was in town during a business trip and luckily I was staying nearby Symposium. Decided to give it a try, oh boy i was not deceived! Ordered some Calamari as entree and the Butter Chicken Rice Bowl. During the smail wait, i contemplated the beautiful decor. Artistic paintings, offering a nice ambiance. The Calamari arrived quite fast, they happen to be, wait for it... Probably the best Calamari ever tried! (Big statement i know, but stand behind it) They were tender and had just enough crust + dipping sauce A1! Followed by the main dish that was exquisite! Awesome staff and great service! Will definitely come back. Can i guve 6 stars here?
